How do you see the Tight End position this year?

Do you think it will be as big of a focal point now that Gilbert pussed out?
I obviously see Taylor as being the starter and playing most of the snaps. I think Bech will get meaningful snaps at the position as well.

Storz will win the heisman

I’ll miss Gilbert-he would have been special in Peetz offense

Just Taylor’s shoe won the Florida game, so we should be good

Go to the game or watch on TV.

Kole Taylor looked good. When gilbert bitched out we were really only left with Taylor.
Looked like he got gassed during games b/c he was the only TE. If they can get a rotation going I think he'll be a good one.
ETA: he obviously isnt the threat gilbert was, but he could be a better tight end.

Taylor has a breakout year and we forget all about the head case ... What was his name?Dilbert

Hard to really know, but it's not going to be a position of strength IMO like it was most of last season in the receiving game. Taylor just wasnt ready to play at the end of last season when he forced into action.
I think if we want to have a quality receiving TE we might need to try out Bech there sooner than later. Hopefully Shead and Storz can help the run game.

He definitely did not
PFF graded him out as the worst player on offense last season. Just for reference. He couldnt block anything and wasn't exactly a weapon in the pass game unless his shoe was being tossed.

I see at as being pretty tight.

I'd love to see Devonta Lee find a home there and make some noise

We should've known something was wrong with Gilbert after he dropped the very first target of his career after the coaches said he didn't drop a single pass in fall camp! His stats were so underwhelming its not like his production can't be topped!

Thank you. He is good but not like he jumped off the page.
I don't think his absence will be as missed as people on this board think.

Some of you with the revisionist history here.
We are going to miss Gilbert a ton, dude was a once in a generational type of player at his position. When Brennan was playing Gilbert had 14 catches for 177 yards and 2 TD in 3 games. That's his first 3 games as a true freshman. Find me any TE in LSU history as a true freshman that ca come close to that kind of production right out the gate of their career. Gilbert's stats went down as we turned to Finley after Brennan, a much less experienced guy who simply couldnt get him the ball very well.

We never had an offense with any other freshman TE

Doesnt really matter, point was Gilbert was an unbelievable talent. Why do you think he was the highest rated TE in 247 history? Why do you think he started on the field as a true freshman in his very first game? Why do you think he was tearing it up with Brennan throwing it to him those first 3 games?
As fans sometimes people have a funny way of dealing with players who leave us. Like when Ika was transferring suddenly he wasn't any good any more, despite playing significant snaps as a freshman on a national title winning team. People do the same thing in recruiting too, dont really get it.
The only thing that can hold Gilbert back is eligibility (iof he can or cant play this year), a QB or his mental issues...that's it. He's got all the talent in the world to be a 1st pick at TE in the NFL come draft time and he showed that to me right away here. 6'5 250 pounders who run like receivers arent exactly plentiful.
You said his stats were underwhelming, let me break this down for you...
With Brennan throwing him the ball first 3 games:
14 catches on 18 targets for 177 yards, 2 TD with 1 drop
With Finley mostly throwing him the ball next 5 games:
21 catches on 35 targets for 191 yards, 0 TD, 1 drop
Finley simply couldnt get him the ball at any consistent rate. That became REALLY apparent in the A&M game when Finley (and Max) was throwing it all over the place trying to get it to Gilbert. Gilbert was targeted 11 times and only had 3 catches with ZERO drops.

My point is he is a head case. Any TE can put up 300 yards in a season. Guess what, Kole Taylor was starting as a freshman. TE will be fine brother!
