and exactly how many 10,000th's early were they?

They were about 3-5 seconds early.

But yeah, it was a lot better than last time being 30 seconds late in the middle of the flag raising deal.

That's a standard 2 ship 2 element formation. Lead wingman and then the 2nd element lead and his wingman.

In the missing man formation, the Element lead pulls vertical leaving the 3 ship slot open. Saw it for Columbia when they did it with T38s at JSC.

I seriously doubt they were early but the band was definately late

It was right on time. They were supposed to fly over while we held the chord with the words "Land of the Free*CuePlanes*eeee"

I believe that they are trying to put in a request for the Alabama game.

That would be cool, maybe we can change it up and get some B-52 and A-10s from Barksdale

One way they can do it is start with a point, (lat/long) Pilots can start off a chart/gps but probably marked the spot by flying over the field and getting "the mark on top" during the previous practice flights on Friday. I'm not a pointy nose pilot and have never seen an F-16 flight computer but they should be able to take this point and enter it into the computer, this becomes a "fly-to point" and the computer can now give information such as bearing, distance, and time to the point based off aircraft ground speed. The flight formed up and was roughly set up several miles away and as the computer told them the time was near they turned inbound. Once lined up you could tweak the speed to arrive over the point at the exact second desired. These guys practice getting to fix points at exact times all the time, not for air shows but for dropping weapons. It becomes second nature. It was a great flyover, thanks!

I would cream my pants, right then and there if that happens.

Doubt it though.

Wow, did NOT know that.

Thought it was supposed to come after a pause after the anthem.

Where are they taking off from? A friend mentioned BR Airport...but I think it's too close.

Way too close. They are part of the TX Air National guard so I'm assuming their home base in TX...

Yeah, the old man next to me told us they were coming so everyone around us in 421 saw them appear as soon as they were visible. That was pretty sweet.

For the first flyover I just happened to look over and notice that one coming as well.

I think someone said it was Texas Air National Guard.

I am more curious as to where they landed...must have been BR metro.

Yeah I was in 420 and knew to expect them as well. I was grinning like a kid on Christmas when I saw them come into view. I could definitely get used to this!

The pilots were Texas Air National Guard out of San Antonio.

usually they'll fly to a holding pattern nearby the flyover point. The jets navigation system takes care of the rest. When you enter the waypoints and the time of arrival, the computer factors all the variable. If you catch a headwind, the computer lets you know that you need to speed up, and will compensate. On location they have a guy with a UHF radio who broadcasts the progress on the ground...which again gets put into the GPS to recalculate time on target. I'd imagine until they close into fingertip formation, for the final approach, that's the first time they turn off the autopilot.

Those guys can be where they want to be in a matter of minutes. They landed at their home base , where ever that was. For App. State, I think they came out of a New Orleans based National Guard squadron...not positive, though.
