quote:But his defense WASN'T that good once he got into game situations. Dawson has, by far, the worst fielding percentage on the team at .867.
First, he told us it won't matter early if Dawson doesn't hit. His defense is that good.
And it's a big difference between "it doesn't matter if he doesn't hit" and seeing the player strike out 7 times in 10 at-bats and grounding into a double play one other at-bat. Dawson literally has made more outs than he has official at-bats. Let that sink in.
So his 0-10 batting was not compensated for with a stellar defensive performance.
As usual, all you want to do is try to find fault with Mainieri. Your schtick continues to grow stale....

Good point. I guess from a roster spot standpoint, it would have to look different. But that's why at least half of them were "encouraged" to leave, to free up a roster spot. I honestly don't think any of those offensive guys would be playing ahead of any of the guys who are. Godfrey would be contributing but I'm not sure in what capacity. He had 2 years to earn a starting spot and couldn't. Putting up stats other places certainly doesn't mean they would have the same stats if they were here.

FWIW he's at 3rd for UNO this year and is fielding at just .929 which is pretty bad.
Dean has also never played 3rd before. He was an OF in JUCO. So there is no reasonable way to suggest he would be at 3rd for LSU this year had he stuck around.

quote:Actually, I totally agree with you Russian. His defense has been bad. I know you gave a number (0.867), but he's had so few chances, that's only two errors though. One at SS in one of those first two games... Which is when he was pulled. And one at 3B two weeks later. But guess what? PM said he would be first off the bench behind KRob and Lochridge AFTER those two errors; not before. So... comment?

That post was far from a "BASH PM!!!" post. I just said I thought it was funny. He was pulled after his first 7 ABs... not 10. He was pulled after just 1 error. So basically, PM was saying, "Dawson, you don't have to hit, but if you make one single mistake on the field, you're finished!!!" And again, I said it was the right call.
"As usual, all you want to do is try to find a reason to knight for Mainieri. Your schtick continues to grow stale...."

Dakota went 0 for LSU as a player here (0 for 11 with 3 walks and 3 K's). He had a chance and he didn't capitalize. He went to UNO because his brother was the coach.

Guess we should just cut Dawson at this point right?

Don't get why Dean left after just one year. He and Godfrey are the two I would love to have back.
