but I do not remember us ever having a deep team under him.
Every year, it seems as if there is no more than 11 or so scholarship players on the team.

I think the biggest reason for our most recent success is Collis Temple. He steered all of those guys from his AAU teams to LSU. Brady still had to coach them, no doubt. However, if you look at the really good players we've had recently, you'll be hard pressed to find one that lived too far away from Baton Rouge. Randolph and Stromile are the biggest ones that comes to mind, and they're from Dallas and Shreveport, respectively.

Remember sitting in the Maravich Center in the '85 NCAA run.
THe program has fallen big time and I wonder if the "development"/do not sign one and done players even gets close to working in today's environment.
No reason a basketball program can not turn around in as little time as a football program - NONE. OFHC, Bo P, AU, etc all proved it can be done in 2 years.
While attempting to not be overly critical, I did have a recent conversation with someone that has association with the Pros. He thought Trent may not be as great as we think. "For 1.2 million, the guy should be winning games now" and he laughed about Van ("the guy is even late for practice").
Let's see how this year and next year turn out under TJ before we pass final judgment. Van simply needs to go.

And TJ is not bringing it back anytime soon unfortunately. I wish we would invest in the program and get a good coach.
Invest? You kidding me??? Have you even been on campus this year? There's this new thing attached to the pmac you might wanna look into.
Also, TJ was coach of the year for two different leagues. That's a pretty good investment IMO.

Crowton was OC of the year with Jimbo's QB too .....

well it is basketball. it's not that hard to build a successful basketball team.
in fact, a lights out shooter at the 2 on this team would make all the difference.
still, we should never lose to state schools.

We do have Turner.

Brady recruited well and had players that were from other places than BR. Brady had problems keeping players around. Tack Minor was from Houston, Magnum Rolle, Jaime Lloreda and Regis Koundjia were from other countries and Ross Neltner was from Kentucky.
We did have a good run of local talent with Bass, Tyrus, Big Baby, G. Temple, D.J. Augustine and Greg Monroe. We haven't had that recently and our program has suffered because of it.
This is a bad team, no matter how you slice it. I would like to see Trent Johnson bring in better players, but I'm going to give him a chance, but we better have a damn strong team by 2012 or I'll be severly disappointed.

I liked Brady when he was here and he did some great things for our program. He was blessed with some of the best local talent BR has ever produced, but he was also able to go out of state and supplement the local talent with some big names from around the country.
I did think it was time for him to go when he did. With the talent he had, he should have done more IMO.
Brady left Trent with a team full of good upperclassmen, but not much behind them. He won the SEC his first year and with his refusal to take one-and-done players or JUCO guys we have sucked the last two years.
I question some of his signings, although LA has been terrible the last few years in terms of recruits. His seat will be very warm at the end of next year if we don't drastically improve.
The new practice facility should help with some recruits, and LA has some great ones coming up in the next few years. I just hope some of our sholarship drains don't prevent us from signing some big-time players.

is he any good? we had a 2 guard out of high school last year who was suppose to be a great shooter too. that was a miss.

That investment was to help the local economy. Someone made a donation that had to be used for that purpose and it was partly because of the success of the women's bball team. TJ is not a good hire at this point.

Okay, I'll bite:
So, basically.... one quality player (Randolph) in Brady's entire tenure (though I guess you could count Stromile, as well...) that Collis Temple didn't hand deliver to LSU.
Pretty damn impressive recruiting, if you ask me.
Did the guy not have a car? Did he have to take the bus to recruit around BR?
I notice you glossed over the stellar recruiting years of Brian Beshara, Brad Bridgewater, JuMichael Young and Xavier Whipple.

A practice gym had been in the works for years. Building one damn building is never to "boost the local economy". Trent Johnson has said from the beginning he intends to build a program here where we are consistent every year unlike the Brady years when we were all over the map.
With the players Brady left us that sorta thing takes time. If you have a bunch of upperclassman like TJ did its gonna take a couple years to really get things going. I see us getting better every year starting this season.

Casually left out bright, Dupree, Roland, lloreda? The man could recruit. I guess by your standards you must be able to only recruit nationally because recruiting your backyard doesn't prove anything.
