No. They also believe we will can Miles if he goes 8-4 this year. I wonder what the media would say if we did?

I'll say if he doesn't win 7 games he'll get canned, particulary if he gets embarrassed in some key games again

He needs 9 wins or he will understand that firing and hiring is no longer his to do.. Every good coach to protect his own hide fires the assistants the first year, then it gets very hot for him. a bad 2009 and 2010 IMO would lead to his release. so 8 in 2009 and 8 in 2010 leads to termination. I do not believe that will happen though.

Let me guess, you play in the band?

2008 introduced some doubt for the Miles supporters and was a self fulfilling prophecy for the Miles detractors. 2009 is critical to show that he has put together another stellar staff and that 2008 was an aberration. If he has a .500 or slightly better than .500 record in league play for 2009, you can expect no contract extensions or restructuring and a short list of candidates being put together for the end of 2010 if there is a 3 peat of mediocrity.

Personally, I believe the ship has been righted and 2009 will have us lose a couple (or 3), but will be competitive in those losses.

I think that you have to win 9 to 10 regular season games to show that you can remain a "national power". I'm really thinking this number is important because of what you show recruits. Consistent 7 to 8 win seasons show that you're slipping closer to mediocracy. I also think that 9 to 10 regular season wins are possible for us. I'm glad Les is our coach and want to see him do it for Tiger Nation!

It's funny how the two-loss NC year is brought up like we greased somebody's palm to sneak into the NC game. At worst, say the BCS system is flawed (it is), at best say the underdog won the game in a big way and deserves kudos for overcoming a horrible two-loss year.

Back to the present, another 7-5 regular season won't get Miles fired, but he would be put on notice and would need a huge year in 2010 to keep his job beyond that. I expect three losses this year, with our talent level 4 losses this year shouldn't happen. Another bad year like last year and we'll have recruits jumping ship before signing day.

Because of this thread and more threads to come before is said and done the pressure is already on.

I think this thread should have never been started because it shows just how much you people that is called Faithful fans is really Fairwheather fans.

Faithful fans stand behind their program no matter what. Yes there comes a time when things like this are needed but this is not the time.

I say

And Go To Hell Ole Miss!

I don't think the losses matter as much as how we lose. Ther worrysome thing about last year's defeat were how embarrasing the two to GA and FL were and how poorly our D played in the other 3. Our wins against SC,Troy, and Tulane were very poor efforts. If we have 4 losses in tight competitive games, Miles is OK.

8 wins a year with a SEC west winning, 10 win season every 3rd or 4th year would probably be enough to keep a coach indefinately. National Power is great but a coach can keep his job by being relevant in his conference.

I think one thing Miles and the team will be judged on is being competitive in every game: no 20- or 30-point blowout losses, such as the Ole Miss and Florida games of last season. It appears that a lot of Tiger fans see 2 or 3 losses this season, but I think most of us expect that even in the losses we'll in the game for all four quarters.

WTF due - You're an a-hole. What was our SEC record last year? 3 or 4 wins against weak opponents like 0-12 Washington AND losing record in the SEC will not cut it. Think about that before you make stupid comments like you actually know football. Smoke took us to 2 CWS and was run. a-hole frick

The only game I can remember the team looking like they didn't show up to play was the Troy game last year and they still won it.

Im sure some would say OM last yr as well but the Pebels were a better team at that juncture. Other than that when has a LM coached LSU team not really shown up?

Then you are stupid and don't know much about LSU or any other team in the SEC. Anyone who didn't think 4 or 5 losses was a very real possibility last year with the amount of talent we lost and the strength of the teams on our schedule is stupid.

So is anyone who thinks 3 or 4 losses this year would be a surprise and some horrible mismanagement by Miles and the coaches.

With our schedule, youth at key positions, and an entirely new defensive staff, you idiots might as well just start up firelesmiles.com right now.

That way all of the knowledgable, realistic, and supportive fans can throw it back it your face when LSU wins the SEC and makes a serious case for a national title in 2010.

Miles has to hope "Cheif" works out, and the D last season was a fluke. Another 7-5 season and his seat gets really warm.

8 wins + per season keeps him here as long as he wants.
