Wrong again. They had three losses going into the game; LSU handed them their fourth. Some people act like we took down the reigning national champs or something. It only looks good in comparison to the 8 consecutive games we lost that season.

No, LSU didn't beat the National Champs, they destroyed #17 Arkansas - Cotton Bowl Champs.

Arky's final 1999 ranking was #!7 Coaches, #19 AP.

It was an important & impressive win for LSU, because it proved without question, LSU was loaded with tons of young NFL talent, for the new Coach.

The talk in Baton Rouge was very positive after that game, citing the young talent, and how LSU simply needed to hire a coach who let them tackle, they wold Win.

*But you & Rocket, are a frighteningly similar brand of Sabanista. So your opinions will differ from 99% of LSU fans who saw that game.

ETA: None of this has anything to do with the legendary Bill Arnspager Era at LSU. Rocket/Carlos has his panties in a wad again, He feels he was personally violated by Gerry DiNardo.

Sammich, you're just mad that you've been busted posting misinformation. 8 losses in a row....that's impressive.

Suggesting that I'm Carlos is more misinformation on your part. You just can't quit.

It was implied when you posted "Rocket/Carlos" in the other post. You used to do the same thing under the Sammich handle you used to post under.

Wasn't he the genius that left Spurrier sitting at the airport waiting for his LSU interview while he was hiring Archer?

Just when I thought I'd heard all the bullshite about LSU and Spurrier, hear comes a new one. For starters, Joe Dean was NOT the AD yet, when Archer was hired. Next SOS had not even coached a game at Duke yet. Nothing like 20/20 hindsight to say who LSU should have hired. Last, Alabama, Texas and USC all all hired new coaches that same off season and SOS wound up at DUKE. So he was not exactly the hot commodity with nothing but USFL expirience at that point.

quote:

Don't forget that Arnsparger recommended LSU hire Archer, then he turned around and hired Spurrier

Yeah, that was Bill A's plan, get LSU to hire Archer, so Spurrier could go to Duke and then Bill A could hire him 3 YEARS later.

I will concede that my argument is based on the 82 teams performance against Nebraska, who many will argue was the best team in CFB that season. the 87 team did not get a chance to face such an opponent, so it may not be fair that I am speculating they would not have fared as well. However, with the 82 team I do not have to speculate - the game was actually played.

You are speculating that the 87 would have lost to a team like NU, but the 82 team did lose to them

82 was a great team, I'm not trying to run them down, but at some point y ou have to look at what they did not, not what they almost or should have done.

Did you get a chance to watch that team, or are you looking at history books

I watched the team play hoss. They were great, but 87 was better.
quote:

yes, I realize there were 2 in one season, but still

they lost to 2 bad teams. Tulane was 3-7 and had embarrased LSU the year before. There was nothing quirky about that loss. Tulane moved the ball all night with Mike McKay and Reggie Reginelli. Find that in your history books.
quote:

Remember we didn't have half the Hilliard-James gang against Nebraska, and we still had Nebraska in a dogfight

This was a common setiment at LSU during that era. I'm so glad we no longer hang our hats on "moral victories". We lost.

quote:

As much as I loved the 87 team, they wouldn't have hung with the big boys in college like that. Notre Dame, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma would have embarrassed us.

So we credit the 82 team for LOSING to Nebraska, but say the 87 team wasn't as good, based on speculation? That makes sense. Oh BTW, in 1986 LSU Did beat Notre Dame. not hung with, not gave them a dog fight, we beat them. The 87 Notre Dame team lost to Texas A&M in the Cotton bowl. We beat A&M that year. I don't know if we would have beaten Miami or OU, but we would not have gotten embarrased by them.

he didn't say that, you post smells of stupity and more lies.

Of course they didn't. They brought in a 9-2 Nationally ranked team & were slaughtered by LSU

Arkansas finished 8-4 in 99 after beating Texas in the Cotton bowl.

They were 7-3 coming into Baton Rouge.

That you have to lie to smear Saban is rather telling.

His one weakness was he had Sabanitis. He lost games he shouldn't have lost. But his 3 years were a lot like Saban's first 3. We didn't have depth.

Except Saban was 2-1 in bowls vs 0-3

quote:

Had he stayed his 4th year, he may well have won a national championship the way Saban did in his 4th year

doubt we get even a split at 12-0. Maybe, but who knows. But Hodson was hurt when we played Bama. I don;t know that Bill A coaching over comes that.
