The conference.

So just by the letter of the law then?

Other conference officials, the officials themselves, etc.

So only those in attendance in the actual, physical room?

Like I asked...who, other than the ones doing the officiating, is present to make sure this all works?

Look...we instinctively understand this issue when it comes to other things. We don't allow the police to "police" themselves. We have representatives from both major political parties at a recount to make sure there are no shenanigans.

In this case, we have at least one actual alumnus of a member university present in a position where he COULD alter outcomes greatly, both during and after games. And the only thing we have as an assurance is his word and the word of his fellow officials that everything is up and up.

Sorry...given the stakes involved, that's simply too much to ask people to take solely at face value.

He was presented as a "good friend of Bear Bryant"

I'm not even sure how this can be true. Bryant would be 105 years old right now, and Ritter didn't even start refereeing college football until 8 years after Bryant's death (Ritter started refereeing Texas high school football in 1977, 5 years before Bryant's death).

It should be national based with the head of the department a FCS school graduate. The conflict of interest needs to stop.

Which in this case, this set up failed. No appeal was available.

this is a definite conflict of mind interest.
Not sure why the SEC as a whole allows this.

His presence is de facto participation.

All they do at REC meetings is get fatter, stupider, stuff their face with hushpuppies and sweat tea and pine over whichever "Guest Speaker" they have.

It's a powerless organization. One of my Co-workers is in it.
