And I thought Deculus showed out other than a couple of early penalties...

A bunch of people owe Coach Cregg an apology. There were a shite ton of snarky posts like

‘But he has super bowl rings ....’

and

‘But I was told Coach O was going to hire the best OL coach in the country...’

OL played against one of the best DL in the their house and won the battle in the trenches for us.

It looks like we might have the right combo now with Charles-Brumfield-Cush-Lewis-Deculus.

Hopefully they can keep healthy and play together as a unit. If so, Cregg should be able to make this a solid group of starters.

His penalties were just inexperience penalties. They would be worse if they were due to snap count/cadence.

His run blocking needs to improve. He did a very good job in pass blocking.

The whole OL needs to improve on run blocking. Put it this way, right now they are making creases not holes. Not driving people, the are pushing people.

On the positive side, the VERY positive side, they didn't allow penetration, especially at the snap (for the most part). They might not have been driving AU out of the way, but they did not allow them to be disruptive. AU's DL lives off that.

Cush has been a pleasant surprise.

On Cush... note how much we are running out of the shotgun. Not one horrible snap.

Even more critical when we are trying to get the ball out in a hurry due to pressure. To mess the QB up it doesn't have to be over his head or dribbled on the ground, just off target. He's had some off targets that didn't affect Burrow too much. But on a regular basis those shotgun snaps have been where Burrow expects them to be (so his eyes can quickly get back downfield) and his mechanics haven't been thrown off.

Such a key element.

And part of the improvement to the entire OL has to go to Cush. He's making calls more quickly and better; I'm making some assumptions here- it's hard to tell without knowing exactly what they are calling. There has been some adjustments by Cregg such a slide protection which simplifies those calls. But nevertheless, the assignment adjustments have improved at the line, and Cush must get a nod as part of that improvement.

I thought he'd be fine myself. But I am too pleasantly surprised at being better than "fine" and he showed something with the snaps and calls last night. Jordan Hare is not an environment conducive to a C avoiding mistakes. Not a single one last night.
