Katz in home-run doubt

First baseman Mason Katz, who tied a career high with 13 home runs in the first 28 games, has not homered in the past 25 games.

“It’s weird,” Katz said. “This is one of the longest streaks without a home run I’ve ever been on. It’s weird that it came in my best home run season. I can’t really try to do it, because if I try more to do it, it will never happen. They’re going to come soon. My swing is starting to feel really, really good. I’m starting to hit balls hard.

“One of these days I’m just bound to run into one. I’m bound to accidentally hit a pop-up and the wind is blowing out and takes it out to left field. It’s going to come. I know I’m not done hitting home runs this year. I hope I’m saving them all for the postseason.”

Is a streaky hitter. Has been a streaky hitter his entire career. The last three years he has had two monster second halfs of the season and one monster first half. Just one of those types of players. I hope someone lights his fuse again and he gets it dialed back in.

He was playing above his ability the first part of this season (not a slight against him, that first half was above even the best's ability) and he's in a power shortage right now.

Baseball is a fickle game. He'll get one of those accidents he was talking about here soon and then be back to the races.

Pitchers are throwing lots of crap at him and not giving him much to hit. Look at how OM his pitching to him tonight.

He went 2-3 weeks where he struggled, but has been very consistent otherwise this year.

one monster first half

Really a monster week HR wise. 7 home runs in 5 games, hasn't hit a HR in the 6 (7?) weeks since.

ETA: not the only reason, but the wind was blowing in just about the entire month of April, when it normally blows out.
