The last public execution at London Tower in the 1740s was quite the spectacle and one enterprising young man built bleachers and charged admission. When the accused was brought out the crowd went crazy, bleachers collapsed some died, many injured. The accused was still laughing when they cut his head off.....hence the term laughing my head off.

However, in modern times after 100s of thousands of senseless posts the term was changed to depict at apt description of sfp and changed to laughing my arse off.
