I would stay close to campus or downtown. Avoid anywhere by the airport. No need to get a parking pass, just find a spot and enjoy the many tailgates. Get out there early and soak it all in. You have a lot of time to make up.......12 years old.....really?

Stay around the I-10 Bluebonnet area by the mall of Louisiana. Lots of hotels and restaurants in the area. Try Parrins on Perkins Rd / Acadian near campus if you like good seafood.

Dont listen to some of these post... Aviod down town hotels at all cost. 90% of government is something you want to avoid. Stay close to campus or on College, Essen, Bluebonnet, or Siegen lane. Virtually everything west of campus is not going to bring back good memories if you haven't been here in 30+ years.

Hotels off of Corporate are a good bet. I have friends who live out of town that only stay at the Courtyard by Marriott off of Acadian, but it is probably booked solid already for every game weekend.

I wouldn't stay on Bluebonnet, it's just slightly too far away from campus.

There is a Sheraton and a Hilton in downtown that are nice. Downtown BR is greatly improved as far as restaurants and bars(40 somethings would fit in at these bars). Plus you have two casinos.

Florida Tiger...

Stay here... You do not have to get on 10 or 12 to fight traffic for the game. you are less than 5 min from the stadium. right by some good food.

Drury Inn and Suites was an extremely nice hotel on Essen Lane that I stayed at while in BR. Great breakfast in the a.m. and very updated and clean.

I agree with most everything posted so far...I typically stay in one of the hotels in either on constitution or downtown.....there is a hampton inn, crowne plaza, and courtyard in the area that are all nice with some resturants (chilis, outback, etc.) within walking distance....the Sheraton and Hilton downtown are also good bets, particularly if you like to visit casinos....at this point, all of these are probably booked up, but keep trying each of them every day using expedia or something like that and you should be able to get a room without a problem...

as for things to do,

-plan to hit coffee call on College Dr. one morning for some bignets and cafe aulait
-eat at the chimes just north of campus for some very good food with a local flair.
-Parrains is in the area of the hotels and serves very good cajun food without too much of a wait.
- I haven't been, but I hear that Opie's Cajun Cafe is very good as well.
-I will get bashed for saying so but check out Walk On's (mediocre food, but great atmosphere in the shadow of tiger stadium and alex box

Plan to come to campus at 8 - 10 AM on game day and spend the day....if you stay on constitution, come in via stanford and park around the lakes or the ag center...

print the schedule of gameday events and don't miss the football team coming down the hill on their way into the stadium, the band coming down the hill...

I'll think of some more later....

if you cannot find a room in a decent hotel, consider staying in lafayette and driving in. seriously, it's like a 45 min. drive, less than almost any commute i've done. come in early sat. to avoid stadium delays.

If you're renting a car, there's always the option of staying in New Orleans and driving in early on Saturday.

Like all have said...College Drive area and you'll be fine or the Sheraton/Hilton/Marriot downtown, depending on your budget.

No need to buy a parking pass. Just get there early, enjoy the sights and watch the team and the band come down the hill!
