This is from a Texas pay sight. Hope I don't get in trouble for this.

Player reviews from my trip to see Lufkin/Cy Ridge
- It goes without saying that Russell Shepard was the most impressive player on the field. In fact, Shepard was as dominant as I've seen a player be in a long time.
In case you missed it. Shepard ran for 323 yards and five touchdowns in Cy Ridge's win, and it looked like he was just toying with the Lufkin defense at times. When Cy Ridge, needed a big conversion, all it had to do was put the ball in Shepard's hands and let him race through the defense to move the chains. Shepard's game in a nutshell - after falling behind 18-7 with just 23 seconds in the half, he shakes free for a 68-yd TD run (and 2 point conversion pass) to cut the lead to three going into halftime. With any other QB, a team takes a knee. With Shepard, you have a chance to score any time from any where.
His top-end speed was simply too much for Lufkin to handle and once he gets into the secondary, you're not going to catch him. He's a fluid runner, but he also has the ability to really stop and start that most guys his size (right at 6-2). Incredible vision too. Just the complete package as a runner. Was talking to some people on the Cy Ridge sideline who coached Thurman Thomas and played against him, and they believe Shepard is every bit in Thomas' league as a runner. Hard to argue after what I saw on Friday night.
Shepard's passing numbers (7-of-15 for 87 yards) won't blow anyone away, but they really don't tell the whole story. He had a couple balls that weren't necessarily between the numbers, but should have been caught. He also had two beautiful throws downfield that were inches away from being complete for TDs. One was broken up at the very last second, the other hit the receiver in the hands and probably should have been caught. Very accurate on those throws and showed nice touch. He didn't work the intermediate routes much, although he did have a nice throw early in between defenders to convert a third and long on which he showed nice arm strength.
Very, very impressive game by Shepard.

Exactly why he will never play QB at LSU.

He may be great and all that, but how in world is another talented, little starry eyed quarterback supposed to be our saviour? Is he going to play defense, special teams and help coach the team???? Does he have any defensive coordinator experience? Really I'm sorry I just can't get too excited about another smallish running type qb commitment who probably won't have any impact for another year or two and by then it may not matter because our program will have already been brought down to a Dinardo type collapse. But I'm glad you're excited and positive.

the defense is very very poor- but the poor qb play and the pick 6 ints has really hurt the overall team ability- the confidence is lost in the qb position--this guy is the real deal in a spread type offense.

I've got a feeling we'll see Shepard as one-half of a two-quarterback rotation next year. The other half comming from JL or JJ.

O town break down spend the $50 bucks and get laid.Using your hand all the time is making you very angry.

OTown.....Shepard is nothing like anything that has ever put on an LSU uniform at the QB position.
Try not being so miserable.

quote:Yeah, you're real cute and clever. Doesn't change the fact that this season has been awful, the defense worse and Miles looks more and more like the goof ball all of our oponents claim him to be. Russell Shepherd may be a fine player for LSU, but he alone will not turn the tide.

signed ~ every running QB ever

Won't be a QB. Should be used like Percy Harvin at Florida.

QB = RS gets the ball in his hands every play.
WR/whatever = RS gets the ball in his hands... not every play.
It's a no brainer. Come on, this guys plays QB.
