Hey, great post, rocket scientist--you made a lot of excellent points. I have criticized Crowton much more than Miles, but truly wish victory for the Tigers & happiness for Coach Miles. However, I did have one question: were you meaning the ESPN college football commentators in general, or most of them? We know that Pollack, Mark Ma and Herbstreit, among others have been among the most vocal critics of the Tigers.
What other ESPN commentators do you think are anti- LSU?
What other ESPN commentators do you think are anti- LSU?

I try to keep in mind that all of the ESPN guys are working for ratings, because the Board of Directors for Disney insist that they do. For instance, Corso, Mark May and others will take certain positions just to get more attention and "effect" for the average viewer. They have a emmy winning formula, so keep in mind that like I said, the E in ESPN is for Entertainment.
To answer your question, beyond the role playing and rating seeking - The most natural and consistent vitriol comes from David Pollack and Kirk Herbstreit. The trends are overwhelming. Kirk will reign it in from time to time and throw a bone to the LSU nation, but the proponderance of his "opinions" are not in favor of LSU. It is not LSU he dislikes, it is a certain portion of the LSU fans he hates, and he does a terrible job of hiding it. What I keep in mind is what happened to me as a kid in Louisiana in regards to the Dallas Cowboys. I grew up "hating" the Cowboys, but in retrospect i did not hate the actual Cowboys, as a Saints fan I was envious of their success and i HATED their bragadocious snot-nosed fans. Herbstreit is that way about LSU, and the "Miles-to-Michigan" back-and-forth, as well as LSU's smackdown of tOSU in the 2007 BCSNCG, has a great deal to do with this.
Pollack, is the one who is most excited to put down LSU. LSU's beatdown of UGA in 2003, as well as the fact that his Bulldawgs have not translated the same success as LSU in the BCS era, not even once while LSU is 2-for-2 in winning BCS national championships in his "adult" lifetime. This irks him to no end, thus the vitriol for all things LSU.
I think Mark May has been the most consistently fair and accurate about the Tigers, and if anything, partial to LSU over the years.
The 6-member panel of the "Experts" is who this is targeted to, because that grouping has universally and emphatically dumped on LSU all year long, and have an especially hard boner for dumping on Les this week. I can so see the board room session before each show.

Kudos TRS for an inspiring and well thought out post!
I concur most heartily!
Here's to the Tigers de-jorting the Gayters this weekend and for finishing the season strong.
Lay off Les non-Tiger fans! I say; "He may be a fool, but he's our fool"

Yes, Coach Miles is one quirky dude, who speaks a one and only linguistic form that is best described as Mad-Hatter-bonics. No one else speaks like that.

THUS FAR, the criticism is warranted, all the while that LSU imperfectly arrived at a perfect 5-0 with wins over 5 FCS teams of UNC, Vandy, Miss State, West Virginia and Tenn - so congrats for doing your job and ripping the LSU nation, team and coaching staff.
Great post, and I hope your are correct... but those 5 schools are FBS (D1 A) schools, not FCS (D1 AA) schools.

The guys on the rant, as ridiculous as we can be at times, know a frickload more about SEC football than any of the assholes on ESPN
May be true, but it does not translate into posts on the rant.

Never said they actually post, although I think it is more likely than not that at some point one of them has, but this is more to say that it is 100% that some of them read this site from time to time and that is where they get their insight into just how mad LSU folks have been of late. It is not just from emails and them tuning into WWL and such, there is a susbset of their crew tuning into to the rant.

Win or lose, I bleed purple and gold. Through Archer, Dinardo, Hallman, I claimed my Tigers and pulled for them.
Amen and to hell with anyone that doesn't.

you need to consider how stupid it looks for your "BCS Countdown" show to only reference the AP Poll which is irrelevant in the BCS formula
I emailed them about this............they didn't reply, I have no clue why they even mention the AP poll....

It is mostly because some notable ESPN/ABC "opinion formers" are also voters in the AP poll. SO, they would simply ignore the facts and use the excuse that they use the AP for all of their other programming and promotions, so it is easier to stay consistent and use it for the BCS countdown also. It is called "intellectual dishonesty" and there is absolutely no hiding the fact that they are aware of this and are hoping no one calls them out on it and shows how stupid it is to mismatch the very name of an entire show with a poll that has been deemed useless in determining the very BCS ratings that allow "BCS Countdwon" to have any meaning at all - it is the definition of arrogance, stupidity - or more likely, both.

the AP writers withdrew their poll from being part of the formula because of their:

arrogance
thinking their poll was worth more or meant more than anybody elses.......this is what makes USC's 2003 AP championship not even note worthy.
