I'm really hoping Javi works some magic on him this offseason.

No, but seriously, I am hoping he makes a big jump hitting next year. If he can get to .260+ he would be legit in the 9 hole.

When everyone raves about Stevenson's defense they fail to mention it is absolutely one dimensional. He has absolutely a pathetic arm. No chance of throwing anyone out from the outfield. God help us if we need a throw to the plate from short center on a tag up. So we have a center fielder who can't hit or throw, but is a step faster than a couple of other outfielders who hit at least a 100 points higher and can throw. A no brainer.

He turns doubles into outs in cf. he can out run pretty much any ball.

I agree. Mainieri is such an idiot if he can't see his mistake that is so obvious to all out there who are smarter and better qualified than he to make decisions that are in the best interest of the team.

He obviously doesn't care to win or he would put a better lineup on the field.

How much longer will the administration hang onto this guy before they go out and get someone who is better able to lead this team and program.

Perhaps the OP should put in his resume. From his post he appears to be more knowledgable than Mainieri.

He'd fit right in with the UCLA batters, very low average and good bunters

Yes he has turned a few doubles into outs, he also has misjudged two soft liners into center that turned outs into singles. Twice he has left his feet and dove for balls hit into the gap that he had no chance to catch thereby giving the opposition extra bases.
He saved some runs on several running catches. How many runs has he cost us by hitting .190? We will never know but over the course of a season I believe it is a lot more than he saved.

I really don't think it's even debateable.
Let's say Foster hits .295 instead of the .360 he's hitting with a sizeable (but relatively limited at bats) with an OBP of .400 instead of .425

that's a HUGE difference. You know how many balls he/Laird would have to just miss or misplay to make up for that.
Think about it.

Come on, man. got 2 meaningless hits at the end of the OU blowout you don't have to know a single thing about baseball to watch LSU & see that the poor kid is totally overmatched. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but it's still true. Would you want him up in a clutch situation before any other starter? Of course not...& you wouldn't want him up before any other legitimate bench guys either. Again, we're talking .190 w/ a .288 obp

With those 2 hits in the OU game, did he have more or less hits than McMullen, Katz, and Ibarra?
Didn't they face the same team? Who cares if it was in a blow out. I'm not saying he is anywhere close to the quality hitter that these 2 are... but 2 hits > 0 hits all day everyday. And in "clutch situations" he comes out almost every time any way, so that is moot.

would prefer on base percentages please

The team's OB% for the tournament is .371 and Stevenson is at .333

My point is that Stevenson doesn't deserve the blame for anything. He is actually exceeding what he did in the regular season (when LSU won a pretty good amount of games) while 2/3 of the team is not doing what they did in the regular season.

I do have faith that they will turn it around tomorrow though!

By listening to some, you'd think that AS is Griffey in his prime and Foster is Jack Cust defensively

Lol, that's basically what everyone here is implying. I dont get it. Do you really lose that much with Laird and Foster in the OF as opposed to Stevenson and Laird? It's a no brainer when just looking at it from watching the games. There is exactly a zero % chance of anyone getting thrown out at the plate right now too on any ball hit into the OF, and we've already seen Foster's cannon. It's got to be something that we dont see everyday. Maybe Foster is late to practice or he's slumping with the grades. Maybe he's a goofball in the locker room or bullshits during team meetings. Could be a bunch of dif things, but I dont see how anyone can say that we are better off with Stevenson and Laird in the OF instead of Foster and Laird.
