Phil Steele has Notre Dame @ preseason #16 and LSU @ #26.

I guess he thinks Notre Dame will be about 10-2 and LSU about 7-5.

We win in the Independence bowl and go 8-5 and Notre Dame loses a BCS bowl and goes 10-3

Notre Dame will have the same team it had last season: great offense and little or no defense. Still, given the schedule, I'd say 8 or 9 wins is quite do-able, which, given Notre Dame's unbelievable BCS deal, would put them in a BCS game.

Sure this wasn't Lou Holtz's prediction?

first of all LSU will not go to the indy bowl because the SEC is not affiliated with the Indy bowl anymore. We make fun of the Indy bowl but remember the Indy bowl is one of the oldest bowls outside of the BCS bowls and the Cotton.

REALLY???

I guess when you lose your starting quarterback to the NFL draft you have the same team the following year.

Since Brian Kelly was the head coach.

ETA: Let's keep in mind it's only preseason.

he obviously has a lot of respect for Kelly and thinks he is a much better coach than Miles.

Hasn't ND recruited very well over the last several seasons? Maybe he thinks Kelly can coach up that talent.

ND went 6-6 last season and lost a ton of close games. Many think that LSU is on a rapid decline.

I think that LSU will be better next year on both sides of the ball, but LSU was overrated last year and did not beat 1 good team. We struggled against poor teams and got extremely lucky against MSU.

ND lost all 6 of their games last season by 7 points or less, so it isn't a stretch to think that they could turn it around especially with USC and Pitt probably getting weaker. They made drastic changes and added a well respected head coach.

LSU on the other hand made little changes. We'll have the talent on the Dline and Oline this year (unlike last year) and it all rides on them. Will we be able to run the ball and will we be able to stop the run? Will we play aggressive defense and let PP cut of half the field or will we play 6-8 yards off the ball and limit the best defensive player in CFB's effectiveness?

The SEC may be more balanced next year. Auburn, Arkansas, and MSU should both improve, Tennessee may improve and UGA can't get much worse IMO. We have a strong schedule in the SEC + WVU and UNC. We could easily not be a top 25 team.

I, however, think that our much bigger Oline will breathe new life into our offense and defense and bring us back to Bama and UF's level.

I expect us to win the West next season. Bama lost a lot on defense

I think Crist will be better than Clausen. He is perfect for Kelly's offense and Brian Kelly is a proven winner. He will make Notre Dame a contender. The talent is there as they have recruited pretty damn well the past few years.

This has been said about Notre Dame every summer since we stomped them in the Sugar Bowl. It never happened and is why Front-Butt Charlie is no longer there. No way Steele ranks a 6-6 team with a new staff and new QB so highly if they weren't Notre Dame

Forget ND. They either will or will not suck. But LSU at 26 is not intelligent IMO.
