that's why the WR screen hasn't been that effective
No, the WR screen hasn't been effective because our quarterbacks are terrible at putting the ball where it needs to be. 9 times out of 10, the WR had to put himself in position to be tackled just to catch the damned ball.

When used correctly he was very good. But the coaching staff quit using his potential because it hurt Jeffersons feelings to have someone with talent stand behind center.
This.
Feel bad for Shep...set up for failure. No way he throws more poorly than JJ, and he would have been deadly as a dual threat qb the past couple of years if properly developed.

You're not a player if the only thing you bring to the table is the "threat" to make a play. From time to time, you actually have to do it. And that means more than 3-4 times a season.
A decoy that is a major threat to score every time he touches the ball is an excellent thing to have.
Again, like it's been said in this thread, it's a matter of using him that way. Crowton didn't...therefore, he's considered a bust after his Soph. season.
Unfair and not deserved, IMO. Especially since he is learning a completely new position in the SEC.

When considering bust status, I try to gauge results vs. hype. That Shep was touted as the next Percy Harvin, or Pat White... and yet hasn't even been an average player thus far, means that he's fallen far short of where he should be.
Despite him not being used in the right places, he just doesn't seem to be able to do the things that he should be able to do regardless of the play being called. He just doesn't seem to have fundamental football skills.

Crowton's inability to allow anybody to have an impact should be taken into account as well

I didn't read the whole thread but this is part of the reason why once a recruit signs you need to forget about stars.
Shep's role in the offense just hasn't clicked yet. He is too skinny to be a running back and too short/doesn't have the skill set to be a great wide receiver.
Percy Harvin's skills to Shep's is night and day. I am pulling for the guy but I just haven't seen it yet other than running sweeps with good blocking and design.
