So scoring offense isn't a real stat?
Passing efficiency isn't a real stat?

Yards per possession LSU was 13th which is fine, scoring per possession they were 41st using those rather than mine. Since mine didn't help your argument.

False, though the cupboard was far from bare when Saban took over.

Facilities wise, absolutely. Player talent wise? Absolutely not. The O-line depth is a serious issue. D-line looks to be good, but young. Linebackers are extremely thin with our 2 best graduating this year. Secondary loses its experience.

Coach O will be inheriting some really outstanding talent at the offensive skill positions, though. That much cannot be denied. WRs should be solid, RB's are elite, and Danny Etling absolutely as the temperament to succeed. He's calm under pressure, laser accurate in the short to intermediate game, great at checking down to his 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even 5th reads, and mobile enough to move in the pocket to buy time and pick up the occasional first down when no one is open downfield.

Next season will likely be tough with a murderer's row of a road schedule including games AT Bama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Florida, plus BYU at a neutral site in Houston.

It will all come down to how they address their offensive line and linebackers. If Canada, Aranda, and Orgeron manage to assemble a capable O-line and Linebacker corp, then this team could really go places. If they cannot, they will struggle to make a bowl game.

I think LSU will likely win the practical home game in Houston, as well as games at StarkVegas, home against Troy, Chattanooga, and Auburn.

However, outside of Auburn and A&M, nothing beyond the month of September is anything resembling a "gimme". 7-5 is a possibility, but so is 12-0, 4-12, and all possibilities in between.

Stats that are determined by time of possession are inflated or deflated stats

Efficiency is a real stat
Points per game isn't. LSU isn't playing with a full 60 minutes due to their slow pace

I agree with everything he says. That's one of the few times for me.

well, at least until he said he wasn't sure about the two coming in. He had to get that jab in there.

Maybe just maybe those same pundits do not watch every game they way we do. Against the better D lines they faced how did they fair. Did you watch the bowl game? Guice had half his yardage on one carry, and Etling was under duress quite often.

I would agree on 2019 being earliest to compete for national title.

LSU's recruiting rankings for the past few years:

2013 - 5th
2014 - 3rd
2015 - 4th
2016 - 3rd
2017 - Pending, will most likely be a top 5 class.

With classes such as this, why shouldn't LSU be capable of making the playoffs on a yearly basis? What exactly do we need to wait around for?

How many yards did we get against bama? I know everyone can have a bad game but OL needs to improve.

The problem with the o line is in the weight room. The o line dominates less talent and year in year out since 2012 bama pushes us around. We have failed to continue to innovate and pursue excellence in strength and conditioning. That is why we have slow feet and get shoved around on both the inside and outside of the line.

What some of you don't seem to understand is that a lot of this has to do with the scheme that we have played, which we KNOW is changing, and the way the line has been set up, which I certainly hope will change with Miles gone. We recruited heavy maulers because we ran a style that worked with those types of linemen. It looked like this would change when Crowton came, as he started to recruit smaller, more athletic linemen, but Miles shut that down pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, this older power running style was most prevalent at time when defenses tended to be less athletic than offenses, at least in the front 4, and sometime through the entire front 7. This changed thanks to guys like Nick Saban pushing defensive recruiting and athleticism as on par with or more important than offensive. As stated earlier, it only works against teams you can overmatch. It completely fails against anyone equal or better, because you basically funnel the ball carrier to a crowded space that your line can't clear, rather than putting them in open space by spreading things out.

Some improved conditioning for our O Line guys would do a lot of good. If we are going to start demanding more movement and motion, even the Guards will need to shave a few pounds and get lighter on their feet. However, just playing guys at their natural positions, which we haven't done in 4 fricking years, would fix more than anything. You absolutely CANNOT play our Guards at Tackle against athletic front 7s. It's will NEVER. WORK. And it hasn't worked, at least not consistently, for several years. They will get whipped in pass protection by any D Line with a pulse.

Keep Tehuma and Clapp at Guard where they belong. If Deculus is ready, put his arse out there, because we need another true tackle to go with Weathersby. At least let him fight it out with Malone, and see if KJ can man up and hold him off. Play Dodd or Brumfield at Center. You know, a guy who isn't 6' 7" and can get outleveraged by a good DT who doesn't have to worry about snapping the ball.

Our best hope is that the makeup of the line was Miles' meddling, and not Grimes. If that is the case, maybe we see these guys played in positions where they can succeed in Canada's offense. If not, then Grimes is the next pink slip up.

Because we are hoping to see a much improved offense that isn't so one dimensional and that can adjust based on the opponent.

We feel pretty confident in our defense.
