Let's see. First off Guilbeau needs to learn grammar. I find it utterly pitiful that a professional journalist doesn't know how to use words properly.
Second of all, I recall that at least 95% or more of this board had little faith in both our QBs last fall. We were all very nervous, so to compare last season to this season is ridiculous.
Third, there are 3 reasons to be optimistic about LSU's QB play this season.
1) Jefferson showed that he's more careful with
the ball and offers another dimension to the game that defenses will have to respect with his rushing ability.
2) I sincerely believe that the coaches have realized to work with the inexperience rather than just running a full offense.
3)Jefferson actually will know more and more of the offense now. If his improvements from Ole Miss to Arkansas and then Arkansas to the bowl game are any indication, we should be looking at vastly improved QB play this season.

So, LSU "Quarterbacks still not ready" because the QB who started last year is losing his job to a new QB (who is barely a step up). Yet the QB from last year is still good enough to maybe beat out the new QB later in the year. Yet the new QB is supposedly good enough to win a game or two more than the QB from last year. All before the QB from last year beats out by the new, barely improved QB?
And that made sense to some of you?

I remember Guilbeau wrote a similar article about the QB's at the same time last year. I sounded like all of ya'll...all pissed and rah rah and such, but he turned out to be right.
Let's hope this year he's not.

Sound familiar? See Mauck and Flynn......
5th year senior and an older and mature Jr. Not even close to being the same.

exactly correct, I remember it too and got slaughtered on here at the time for pointing it out.
He does say in the first paragraph that its not the same exact situation but JJ has STARTED two games, just saying. I think most LSU fans want him to be very successful, doesn't mean it will happen though

What Guilbeau doesn't say is that there are plenty of teams who put in an untested QB and came out smelling like a rose i.e. McCoy at Texas and Tebow at Florida, Pat White at West Virginia to name but a few examples. Jordan Jefferson has just as an impressive of a high school career as ANY of these 3 and with a little experience under his belt from last year, this spring and fall camp, he's poised to be more than adequate. He'll probably be the best all around athlete that we've had as a starting QB in a while and I am looking forward to that!! With the other weapons on offense this year, he will have the opportunity to make good decisions and not have to carry the load by himself. I think he's going to be much better than Guilbeau seems to think!

Do not doubt Jefferson he is the truth, if you doubt The Doc will have a little minor hissy fit meltdown.

he guessed Hatch would get hurt and we would have two freshpeople in at 1 and 2 throughout the year? if he did, damn

If I remember correctly, he observed the QB's in practice and simply stated that this was probably going to be the worst we had played at the QB position in a long time. It was true. Very true.

Are you suggesting last year would have been different if Hatch hadn't gotten hurt???

Some Guilbeau quotes from last season:
Some Guilbeau quotes from last season:
quote:
This may be like the 1999 season when three quarterbacks started. It won't be like 1999 in the loss column, but I think you're going to have a lot of experimenting early in the season. By mid-season or late season, I think you could see Jordan Jefferson starting a game or two. But I don't think he will become the permanent starter.
quote:
Co-coordinators is a bad idea in general, I think. Why not make a decision and give it to one guy? Doug Mallory deserves it, and really if you had to pick one, he is the guy. He'll be calling the plays and having the last word in game planning. In truth, though, I think Les should have gone out and hired the best coordinator out there. That's what he did when he got Pelini and Crowton
quote:
No one has any experience. Coach Crowton even said he is at a loss to try to gauge the three guys because he has not seen any of them in college action, except for a few plays by Hatch. They're all green, and the proposed starter is at a questionable talent level (Hatch) given his background..
quote:
Picking at Saban's won-loss record is a ridiculous argument. He's a program rebuilder. His record would be much better had he stayed at LSU, but he left to rebuild. If Parcells had stayed with the Giants, his record would be much better. You have to look at the record of the schools Saban coached before he got there. I've given Miles love. But when you're talking Saban and LSU, you have to look at the facts. He BUILT this program. Now Saban is damaged goods right now, and Les is gaining on him because of that loss to ULM.
quote:
Ole Miss could be a surprise this year because Orgeron left some decent talent, and Houston Nutt is a helluva coach. Nutt made players and teams overachieve at Arkansas for years. He's a very good coach, probably the best coach Ole Miss has had since Tuberville.

but surprise surprise GG authored a negative LSU article.
Do you want him to really report or do you want a cheerleader?
Just because he is willing to point out a negative about the team, doesnt mean he hates LSU.
In fact, it means he is doing his job.
I would prefer to read a real critique, that gives the honest pro's and con's of our team than a puff piece.
