Quality depth will resolve many ST issues and reduce the amount of playing time for starters on the DL at the the same time.

Meh....Our ST's was bad in basically every aspect. I highly doubt our players were that bad. At one point in the season, we were the laughing stock of CFB.

We held our breath every time the ball was punted to us. Hell, 1 game the fans started cheering when the return man waved for a fair catch and fielded the punt. We lost tons of yards on the season because our returner didn't even attempt to field the punt.

Also, we had huge problems covering kickoff AND punt returns. Players either had big returns OR was 1 player away from housing it. Not to mention the UGA fiasco.

Some of it is on players but make no mistake, we need better coaching in that department. There are concepts that are used in covering kickoffs and punts and LSU always had players out of position, leading to more yards than should've been allowed.

Bowl games have become inconsequential with all the opt-outs. No longer are they an accurate depiction of which team is better. It's now become more about which team will have more of its season starters. That said, Polian should be kept on staff but we definitely need someone that's better at coaching ST's. BP doesn't need to be fired during OR after the season, we just need another person on staff that can "assist" in coaching ST's.

Good post. We had an kicked blocked in our first and last game. We were not well coached.

He could reassign him to off field position and hire a hot shot special teams coach.

The “on-field coach” designation is way more important for the recruiting coordinator than it is for a special teams coach.

It’s far more likely that they hire an off-field assistant to run special teams at practice. Which, IMO, would be a reasonable solution.

I know nobody wants to hear it and I’m not defending Polish’s ST units by any means, but improved depth / greater scholarship numbers should help next year as well. Better depth means less starters on special teams, which should allow more practice time for special teams.
