Found this great article about Tyler on Nola.com.

LINK

Here are a few highlights.
quote:

LSU Coach Paul Mainieri likes to joke that he recruited Tyler Hanover to have someone shorter than himself in the team picture.

quote:

Hanover, a sophomore second baseman, is coming off a red-hot SEC Tournament performance in which he hit .526 (10-for-19) and fielded brilliantly to help LSU sweep four games and win its third straight conference tournament title. He provided the winning margin with an RBI single in the 11th inning of the Tigers' 4-3 championship game victory against Alabama. He's raised his season average to .336, third on the team.

quote:

In the past 15 games, Hanover has been LSU's hottest hitter with a .410 average. He is on his hottest streak since joining the team from Kernersville, N.C.

quote:

Since April 7 he's made only one error, and that was when he was distracted by Mississippi State first base coach Nick Mingione.

Agreed.. Nick Mangione is a dick. I wonder how long Tyler's error-less streak would be without that play.

Hanover has been playing great. Hopefully he can keep it up throughout the postseason.

Dude was running down the foul line in the outfield practically, telling our cutoff man (hanover) to go 2 with the ball when hanover had a shot at the guy at the plate. Hanover double clutched and that was pretty much the difference in the play at the plate. This guy is their first base coach mind you. He had no business being that far down the line

The funny thing is.. Tyler was still relatively close to making the play.

Apparently the umps were watching the play unfold and not him.....Dean jawed with him for a bit the next inning, and Mainieri jawed with him at one point and came out of the dugout. Then the ump told the guy something and that was the end of it.

His errorless streak would have run back to early april, as the article says...

But FWIW, he has made 6 errors this year, fielding .978, which is 4th best on the team among the normal starting position players.

March 31st against Binghamton was his error before the one in early April, if that is what you are getting at.

I'm not surprised at all by his defense this year, I remember hearing he didn't make an error in high school at 2nd base

It is.. Good info.

As the article states Tyler has been excellent at fielding balls off of the mound. I wouldn't want anyone else at 2nd but him.
