In a recent Yahoo article, Jones recounted how “it wasn’t uncommon for Burrow to answer something in a meeting and for him to cut him off: ‘Hey John, shut the frick up.’” This trend extended beyond Burrow’s teammates. According to The Athletic, Meyer repeatedly told Burrow that he was a “Division III quarterback” and that he “throws like a girl.”

Sophomore Ja’Marr Chase is also expected to get drafted one day, but similarly isn’t pegged as a first-round talent.

The yahoo article goes on to talk about how that was used to challenge and toughen up the QB's. J.T. Barrett was quoted as saying Meyer told him as a freshman he wasn't even good enough to play at Sam Houston State.

If you're going to be a grate QB you better be mentally tough. In addition to great credit, you're often times going to take more heat than you deserve. They treated him, in a stacked QB room, as a guy who had to earn his place. He did...fortunately that was at LSU

It is well documented that Urban said this kind of shite to everyone. He uses it as motivation and to see who will break. It is doubtful that he really believed it, or he wouldn't have signed him.

Christ some of y'all are looking for shite

Burrow said this in an interview once that Urban does it on purpose to get under their skin. Urban even talked about it and said Joe's reaction was outstanding.

Literally no story here except Urban's style of motivation

Joe was said himself in a press conference that Urban did this to toughen him up. This is a dumb thread.

CUM won a title when his best QB was 3rd on the depth chart. Are we really surprised he can’t evaluate QB talent effectively?

That's how you really want to spin it? I see it as, he won a national championship with his THIRD STRING QB. I see it as spot on talent evaluation if you have 3 great QBs, capable of winning titles.

Weren't Tony Romo, Carson Wentz and Ben Rothlesberger all from Div III schools?
