We know his clock mngt skills are lacking. But look at his personnel (coaching) moves. Brings in a Bo Pelini and later a Gary Crowton (two high-profile, well-regarded coordinators ... true, the bloom may have fallen off of Crowton's rose, but at the time he was a great hire.) He recognized his mistake on the co-def coordinators and brought in Chavis (high profile, well-regarded coordinator.) Now, he's making another great hire w/ Gonzales (who apparently, doesn't share the view of some that Miles is a "blockhead" ... you don't leave a Univ. of FL and Urban Meyer to go coach for a loser). Compare to Dinardo who made horrible staff hires/moves (Tepper, McConnell to OC) that led to his downfall. Les has faults, but he "gets it" and right in front of our eyes he is taking proactive steps to solidify LSU as an elite program.

Yep, I'm anti-Les, but you can't bash him in this regard

Hard to disagree with this hire. The world thinks Miles is a goofus and I think Miles recognizes his weakness and is hiring those that have the strengths he doesn't have.

A good CEO does that. It remains to be seen if the quality of his hires gets the job done. I sure hope so, what choice do I have?

Hmm, I think the exact opposite of you.

I like Les as a coach, but I think he makes horrible coaching hires.

I think your posting rights have been revoked. We have a crystal ball in a case solely because of Les Miles' ability to bring in the correct personnel.

I will give him this ... he definitely holds people accountable while at the same time treating them professionally.

The problem with Les and his hiring of coaches is the same as his problem with getting good recruits.

He gets good coaches, then their lack of production, shitty schemes, and inability to coach up the players becomes glaringly evident. Who's fault is this? The coaches were known as good coaches, yet when they come to LSU, they suddenly forget how to coach and then under perform?

LSU gets great recruits, then as freshmen either they don't play, under perform, or don't progress as sophomores. Who's fault is this? The players had raw talent when they got here, yet they don't perform at the same level year over year, or don't live up to their star rankings.

You could cite several examples of each instance. Now I ask you, who's fault is it that these players and coaches don't progress or don't show us their "star power" once they get to LSU? The constant in that argument is Les Miles.

I agree, but I think he's 0/1 on OC hires. I guess you could call this 0/2 if you wanted to leave Jimbo in there.
He's 1/2 on DC hires. (Jury still out on Chavis)

I know I'm in the minority here, but I like Mile's philosphy, he just has problems finding the right fits with coaches IMO.

The problem is that he didn't recognize it before he made it.

Miles has hired recruiters with Wilson and Gonzales.. not great position coaches. Gonzales has been passed over twice for the OC position at UF, and would have again this off-season. Why do you think he left his cushy job at UF?

Maybe I'm crazy, but recruiting isn't LSU's problem? I fail to see where he has addressed the MAJOR coaching deficiencies on his offensive staff?

All the back and forth discussion aside...I like these two new offensive hires by Les.
