FSU holds a practice on Friday (it’ll serve as a game-week Wednesday practice) and then on Saturday to wrap up camp. The Saturday practice will be a game simulation.

Florida State QB Jordan Travis explains how he's 'grown a lot' as Seminoles' QB

quote:

Florida State redshirt junior quarterback Jordan Travis is set to enter his fifth collegiate season and fourth with the Seminoles in 2022. Last season, in 10 games, Travis completed 62.9% of his passes for 1,539 yards with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 530 yards and seven touchdowns. During a press conference following Tuesday’s practice, Travis was asked how he has grown as a passer.

Takeaways from Thursday’s FSU football practice

Defensive line showcases depth

quote:

A little like yesterday, the defense either honed in quickly to the ball or was already there when it crossed the line of scrimmage either through the air or in a running back’s hands. The defensive line pretty much came in waves and caused a lot of problems for the quarterbacks trying to get the ball out. That, paired with extremely tight coverage by the linebackers and defensive backs, made it hard for the offense to move the ball through.

Lineman Dennis Briggs was able to record a sack on quarterback Jordan Travis. Defensive linemen Ayobami Tifase and linebacker Amari Gainer also had sacks and I’ve noticed Joshua Farmer bullying guys around.

FSU football: 3 difference-makers emerging from 2022 fall camp

quote:

More importantly, this team has depth in multiple positions and leadership from some key players. The large number of transfer players enrolling in the spring semester should pay dividends as those players assimilate expectations for coaches and the fan base.

Mycah Pittman

quote:

Pittman has been one of the most consistent options for Jordan Travis. He’s sure-handed, can beat man-to-man coverage, and doesn’t waste time getting upfield after the catch. He also has the potential to be a major upgrade at the punt return position.

Johnny Wilson

quote:

He does an excellent job of high-pointing the ball and should be an immediate threat in the red zone. He could also serve as a great decoy. I’d also expect him to be someone the quarterback could look to find when they need a third-down conversion.

Wilson does a good job of using his body to shield smaller defenders and usually catches the ball with his hands away from his body.

FSU football: Top 3 areas defense must improve in 2022

Red Zone Defense

quote:

One area the defense performed well was in the red zone. The Noles tied for No. 7 nationally with only 34 red zone trips allowed while only allowing a score 70.59 percent of the time, which was also No. 7 nationally.

Explosive Plays Allowed

quote:

FSU tied for No. 49 nationally with 166 plays of 10+ yards allowed in 2021. They tied for No. 25 nationally with 49 plays of 20+ yards allowed and were No. 43 nationally with 23 plays of 30+ yards allowed.

FSU football: Takeaways from 2022 fall camp second scrimmage

quote:

The running backs will be a strength with a physical style. FSU coaches had some young guys on the offensive line getting reps who had some focus issues with penalties. However, Alex Atkins also had guys playing at positions they hadn’t normally seen action to challenge them and build on the adversity from the week. I think they know the starting five or have an idea of who they’ll be with injuries aside.

quote:

The wide receivers are much improved over last season. Johnny Wilson, Mycah Pittman, and Malik McClain all made plays. Deuce Spann had a big play, and I think the coaching staff has an idea of the strengths of each of these players. The key will be putting them into situations to capitalize on those strengths. Markeston Douglas may emerge into a contributor at tight end.

Why run? Darius Washington is constantly working to better himself, and FSU's offensive line

quote:

Washington spent last season starting at both tackle spots, but also began learning all three interior line positions as well. This spring, before a knee injury, Washington was focusing more frequently on both guard and center. At center, snapping is obviously a key component of the game, and Washington wants to test himself in any way – mentally and physically – when he has the ball in his hand.

Jordan Travis makes bold declaration about Florida State's defensive front in 2022

quote:

“And, obviously, the d-line’s very tough to go against every single day. Probably the best d-line we’ll face all year long. A bunch of guys are just fast, strong. Fabian Lovett, you’ve got Coop (Robert Cooper), you’ve got Jared Verse.”

“I can keep going on. Those guys are very talented. It’s a blessing for us that we get to come here and play against these guys every day. I feel like a lot of these guys are going to play in the NFL one day. So, it’s great for us to be able to compete against them every single day,” Jordan Travis concluded.

Thanks for putting this together Crown.

I hope our LBs are ready to fill gaps and tackle. FSU is going to be reliant on the ground game. If we can bottle it up and force Travis to pass the ball, I like our chances.

On the contrary, I wouldn’t mind seeing Travis get a false sense of confidence in his passing by throwing it all over Duquesne.

I forgot they have Jared Verse until reading that. Of anyone my main team (Syracuse - married into the Tigers thank god!) played, that guy stood out as the most freak of freak athletes. And we have no shortage of good players who kicked our a$$es. He’s crazy fast so I’m excited to see how lsu can contain the edge. Legit test.
