I would like to see a shorter season without all of these cupcake, OOC games in order to put a playoff system into place. Rent a wins like the one we played last night aren't a good idea for a number of reasons.
1.) the fans don't care
2.) the players don't care
3.) we have no benefit to winning the game
4.) we have alot to lose if one of those teams wins
5.) a playoff system > BCS system in place
6.) every other major sport in the world has a playoff system

No. Need them. It gave a lot of players playing time that don't play all year.

each game is a PLAYOFF. So they better start caring. We simply cannot continue to play down to our competition.

i dont like the small team games either. would much rather a bye week.

yeah you can argue it gets players that dont play often time to play. but what happens when your 1st teamers come out flat and the other team keeps it close...

it destroys the entire purpose of the game, because instead of resting starters you have to keep them in much longer.

as a fan of a major team, i do to. but please understand, these games provide HUGE financial support to the small programs. take that away and they will have to find a way to raise an xtra 500m to 1mil every yr. just to keep their programs afloat. so i guess the question is, does major college football kill the little guy? also, these games are big money makers for the big guy too. so how is that income going to be replaced? if your team doesn't make the playoffs or loses the first game, the fans are going to have to pony up more. just sayin'. money talks; no getting around it.

And every other sport in the world has a much inferior regular season to college football too. Have you seen LSU's schedule this year? A couple of well placed cupcakes are almost necessary.

Then that is the fault of the coaches and the players.

If we had been playing Lee all season we may have gotten to see a couple of blow-out games where our younger players did get some PT. But instead we "like the two QB skill sets" and therefore "will continue to utilize the multiplicity of the two QB system"

You can't play back to back to back huge games, the team will wear down.

These games are cruicial to trying new players without risk. You stance is completely flawed.

If you are playing a cupcake team, one with their 1st string QB out and 1st and 2nd string RB out as well as their best defensive player...YOU SHOULD COVER THE SPREAD!! or you should at least get close! You should not need fake punts, and other b.s. to man handle them!!!

secondly, LSU has enough chances to prove themselves during the year with Bama, Auburn, Fla, etc etc. Playing a game against an instate team that charges much less than any other big opponent and also brings THOUSANDS of its own fans to the game is a win win for LSU. LSU made more money, LSU put more butts in stands this week than they would against mid major, LSU also got very good PR with all of the fans of McNeese who are very much unlike ULL etc....WE ARE FANS OF BOTH MCNEESE AND LSU!!! We know we are 1-AA (FCS) team. Everyone I know that came to see McNeese wanted McNeese to fight hard, not get embarrassed, but for LSU to ultimately win!!

Every team that plays a record as LSU throws in a cupcake game, it is absolutely the right choice to do it with an in-state team!!!

I'd rather have 10 regular season games with 1 bye week.

soccer doesn't really have playoffs per se in many countries. usually the league winner is the best team at the end of the regular season. now they do have a tournament of champions to determine the best team in europe, but thats alot different than playoffs in american sports.

Keep the rent a wins. Just replace the in-state rent a wins. The vision that LSU had a decade ago about playing instate opponents, never has and never will come to fruition. We just don't care about any of them and there are no new rivalries being created.

and less attention is paid to the regular season as a result. college football is different and better than every other sport; I like it how it is.

winning the SEC or the SEC tournament in basketball for example doesn't mean shite if you're one and done in the NCAA tournament. I don't want to see the same thing happen in football.

1. The BCS schools will not agree to a playoff system (though +1 game may be adopted eventually).
The NCAA expanded the regular season to 12 games, mainly for the revenue it generates. If a playoff system were adopted, the regular season would probably be reduced by at least 2 games. While some argue a playoff system would produce more total revenue, the revenue would likely distributed more broadly than it is now (which is the single biggest reason non-BCS schools express an interest in the playoffs), reducing the take of the big schools in net dollars by a substantial amount.

2.There is likely to be a negative effect on the bowls (despite the argument they should be included) because fewer schools would be involved in a playoff system than currently are involved in bowls, and the expense of multiple additional games for teams who are advancing would preclude more fans from attending (reducing the impact bowls are designed to produce for their communities). I suppose that bowls could continue for teams who are not in the playoffs, but no one can really predict if this would be workable or attractive enough for them to survive.

3.Extending the season isn't really feasible. College football players are still students. They are not full-time players, like NFL players. We would also be asking them to extend a season with no discernable benefit to the players (no pay, increased likelihood of injuries, and greater risks to ending a promising pro career through injuries). Those increased demands on players didn't stop the schools from extending the season to 12 games, plus adding conference championship games, but at some point there is a limit.

4.The economics of Div 1A football are not comparable to the other smaller divisions of football, nor to basketball, baseball, etc.

5. It would have the inevitable effect of lessening the importance of individual games during the regular season.

But the biggest single factor is still no. 1- BCS schools will receive less revenue under a playoff system.
