that's the point of my post above yours .. just seems like people are attacking gerry lane for having his name up there ... i would focus on LSU's choice to seek private funds to build that in front of the stadium ...

i think people are "attacking" him because he probably had a say-so on how big his name was going to be on it.

because he paid for the whole thing, coon, and he donates a boat load of money to LSU and has been for years with little or no recognition for it ... this is just big time college athletics today .. the cost of amenities and doing business has just far exceeded what the schools can squeeze out of we fans, so they have to look at the corporate sector for money ... having one's name on something is about the best selling point a school has for getting them to write them a check ... personally .. i wonder how much the thing really cost and why TAF couldn't have just done it with monies collected from the baseball tradition fund personally ... i am not arguing the point that it does look a little strange up there .. i am just discussing why it is up there ..

Seriously, what did he REALLY donate? A stadium? An arena? Maybe an academic center or even a classroom building? No, he donated a fricking shrine to himself that serves absolutely no purpose but to take away from he aesthetics of Alex Box Stadium.

I would certainly prefer that the Circle of Champions not exist over the Gerry Lane Used Car World of Champions.

I'm not willing to go that far. It's pretty nice.

an amazing concept used by a good businessman .. imagine that ! and exactly what would tulane put in the "gerry lane championship plaza" in front of turchin stadium ? conference usa tourney plaques ?

Lol, i Know what you mean, but i was thinking the same
Thing when unheard the glazer family(teamed same TB/Man u owners) are donating enough $$$ to build Tulane it's own stadium on campus. Their daughter is a sophomore or freshman i think. First make any sense since theyre in debt with man u.

I don't know Gerry Lane, and I appreciate his generosity, but he could have told LSU that it doesn't look right...would he have still donated the money if his name was not as prominent on the sign?

But someone in the AD ultimately bears responsibility for this...

Here a little funny tidbit, how many of y'all know/knew that Gerry lanes son played baseball for Tulane...the only reason he supports lsu is bc of it's market in baton rouge. They're a Tulane family.

Only because Skip wasn't coaching yet. Eric would have played for Skip, I remind him of his tulane career every time the Tigers beat up on the Willow St wimps

Like I said, if I was donating money to build this thing I would not want my name on it. It would look awful. Keep things nice looking.

It sounds like a lot of people will no longer patronize Gerry Lane's dealerships. I know I won't. Spend money to lose money. Smart businessman he is.

He is a damn car salesman what do you think he is going to do.

For the record "We are not arkansas" or whatever school is not a good point.

is it not? it's actually the EXACT point. arkansas names anything for anyone with a big enough checkbook. We don't. We could have the canes basketball arena, the am mart softball field, the reggies indoor track facility. but we don't. almost all of our named facilities/things are after people that were prominent in the sport. all we have is cox and gerry lane.

Well, other than the name it's a beautiful thing and I like how they left an empty spot to the right of the 2009 CWS plaque.

i think you are exagerrating and going overboard now .. i guarantee you that TAF approached gerry lane and offered this to him in lieu of the money it would cost so that they didn't have to tap their money .. once again, point your venom at LSU, not gerry lane ..

you and i both know that wealthy business owners have an ego and LSU preyed on this ego to entice gerry lane to write them a check to build this ... gerry does like to put his name on things .. he has his own ad agency run by his own daughter ... LSU went to his office and asked him because they knew it would be a quick, easy sale and no skin out of the TAF coffers ..

exactly my point ..

you can't say that for certain ... if you were worth what that guy was worth, you would look at things a lot differently .. and if LSU comes to you and says, filmmaker45 .. we want to build a championship plaza right in front of the new alex box that will be worth an incredible amout of money in marketing exposure because we want to put your name on it for just writing us a "X dollar" check to build it ... you wouldn't say .. "no, guys, here's my money, i am going to pass on the exposure" ...
