Boise St. Cincy, maybe. The old BCS Buster teams, I guess. But all of that is over with. With the Big XII dying, and no one to really fill Patterson's shoes, TCU will go back to the cellar.

I really hope Patterson lands on his feet. I'm sure he will. He deserves better. I guess he met with the coaching staff Monday to go over what would have been his plan for Baylor.

Gary Patterson at one time was someone the NFL coaches would pick his ear over. Defenses in the NFL rapidly change and it is always hard to get things perfectly right but that 4-2-5 pretty much became the Seattle Seahawks. Pete Carroll is not a dummy. Well known after the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin people really started to believe

Watch the game. Very important game in the history of CFB and football in general
TCU at times had issues like any team would but for the most part TCU with a defense giving up a lot of size did pretty well against that football team

Problem always with college football is the talent pool. Don’t have it like NFL teams. Especially on defense.
The one position coaches started to substitute and that is LB.

Always liked Dave Aranda because he knew the LB position. Gary Patterson isn’t far off

Taking this back to LSU.
Aranda pretty much is one of the reasons you see Patterson out
Aranda is a better version of what GP made his money on. Evaluating.
Unlike Patterson Aranda doesn’t have a concern with offenses who sometimes hurt the defense

All those schools in Texas are like that. Right coach wins. That is why coaches are always on the hot seat.
TCU has had two
Even Rice has had one

1961 LSU would have been NC but they lost to Rice to begin the season.

Can't argue any of that but at that point we obviously weren't moving the ball past the 50 with Jefferswag so you have to at least put him in.

Not to belabor this, but the Fort Worth community does consider TCU its hometown team. Patterson didn't have to drum up support. But he did have to shake a lot of hands to get local business people to donate to improve the stadium (can you imagine Saban doing that?).

TCU only has 11,000 students but a stadium with 50,000 capacity. Tiger Stadium is twice that size, but has three times the number of students. TCU draws well when they're winning, but sellouts depend on the opponent. Games against Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor are usually sellouts.

Other than these last couple of years, the football program has been decidedly better than Boise State. Patterson's team beat Texas regularly, and he's beaten some good non-conference teams, like Oregon and Ole Miss.
No, they're not SEC-caliber, but who is?
They, like most of the Big 12, are likely to get left behind when the expected major reorganization of college football occurs.
And it will be because their small student, alumni and fan base can't bring enough eyeballs to the new TV package.

Lastly I lived in Fort Worth for a few years and I can assure you the city doesn't have a little brother complex about Dallas. It's proud of its distinct personality.

It may be "small potatoes" in sports, as you said, but the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers both play on the Fort Worth side of town.

My son was recruited by Patterson and went to a couple of their camps. I really liked the guy. He is intense but quite personable. I could see him getting considered for a DC position at a P5 school or HC at another TCU type program.
