Not to say that Bama shouldn't get another shot, but this does sum up it that they won't have the extra risk we will have to take in the SEC championship game

If you cant win your division, much less your conference, you don't get a chance to win a crystal.

I think Oregon would be more deserving of a rematch than Alabama since they didn't lose to LSU in Autzen Stadium, they lost a de facto road game.

Absolutely agree... and I've got a feeling that if it boils down to Oregon and Alabama most human voters will see it that way, too. If I were a betting man, though, I'd say it's going to be LSU v. Boise State.... which would be pretty damn cool.

We were clearly the second best team in the country to LSU in 2007, but the talking heads said nope you did not win your conference so you don't deserve a shot at LSU.

Same applies to Alabama today.

If a re-match is possible if both teams win out the regular season then Bama has an even better shot than LSU since LSU would have to play the SEC championship which they could lose.

Maybe.

But it could mean that Oregon (who presumably beat Stanford - then won their conference championship game) should go. A 1 loss Oregon (who won their championship game and loss to LSU at neutral site (first game of season)) should go b/f a 1 loss Alabama (who lost last week at home to LSU).

No I wouldn't. If you don't even win your division, let alone your conference, you shouldn't be able to play for the national title. They cleay need to make it a rule. How can you be the 2011-2012 NATIONAL CHAMPION and not the 2011-2012 SEC CHAMPIONSHIP

Gary: "Yes. The best thing for the SEC would be for LSU to beat Boise 50-3 then that 9-6 game would be as immortalized as the 10-10 Notre Dame Michigan State game as a great game for the ages... otherwise it's only a great game for the SEC.

I can still remember the 1960 Sugar Bowl.

So do I. For those of you who don't/weren't born yet:

Oct. 31, 1959: LSU 7, Ole Miss 3 (Billy Cannon's punt return)

Jan. 1, 1960: Ole Miss 21, LSU 0 (Rematch in the Sugar Bowl)

Alabama gets their "rematch" next year in Tiger Stadium.

just what I've been telling my "living in deep denial bama friends" who are, frankly, beginning to annoy me.

Someone needs to remind Nick Saban and let the Alabama fanbase know that in 2003 after it was determined that Oklahoma would play LSU, Saban is on record saying that a team should not be allowed to play for a national championship if they do not win their conference. I know someone out there has the sound bite as he said it in a recorded interview. If Alabama starts "stumping" for a rematch,I hope someone dusts it off and plays it 10,000 times. Once again, Alabama and it's coach will prove whether he is a man of his word (not likely imo) or just a whiny little bitch hoping to get his way. You can't have it both ways, Nick.

You're full of shite. In 2007, UGA was arguing they should have gone to the title game INSTEAD of LSU, since before the SEC title game, UGA was ranked higher. The voters properly moved LSU in front of UGA, and it became a moot point.
