Well if its a list of best possible candidates, where the hell are names like Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly, Sean Payton, etc?

Well shite you just get Sean Payton to come on over and coach and I'll be ecstatic. He's my favorite coach, college, pro and everywhere. The man's a genius. Do you think that he can just up and leave the Saints though? Think.

No I'm not stupid... Those are the best candidates. I didn't say they were probable candidates.

Well, then. What about Steve Spurrier. I be he could draw up some ball plays with Russell Shepard in them. We could coax Spurrier to BR with promises of dinners at TJ Ribs, where he could stare at Billy Cannon's Heisman.

Holy. shite. That's the whole point! The chances of Brian Kelly and Sean Payton becoming our offensive coordinator are the same. Zero.

Yes but Spurrier said he's made his last coaching stop.

Good OCs we can realistically hire:

1. Dana Holgorsen (OC Houston)
Our best chance to get a great offensive coach, especially if Coach Sumlin leaves the program for somewhere else. Coaches closeby, familiar with recruiting in Texas, Texas Tech's OC last year (4th ranked offense), Houston's OC this year (1st ranked offense). Question marks include: having already inherited two great offensive systems, and not having recruited or developed his players.

2. Nolan Cromwell (OC Texas A&M)
Aggies offense is ranked 6th overall. He has experience coaching mobile quarterbacks. Cromwell coached three Super Bowl offenses under Mike Holmgren (2 with Green Bay, 1 with Seattle). Also coaches in the area. Only his first season at the college level.

3. Justin Fuente (Co-OC, Running Backs Coach TCU)
Coordinates the 4th ranked offense, and is the RB coach for the 5th ranked rushing offense. Also coaches in the area.

4. Sonny Dykes (OC Arizona)
Zona's 430 yds/g is the 2nd best in the Pac-10 after Stanford. Was an Asst. Coach at ULM years ago. Has done incredible things with Arizona's once-anemic passing game. He served as the WR coach for Texas Tech from 2000-2006 and may have recruited Michael Crabtree.

5. Robert Anae (OC BYU)
Would be ironic, because this guy kind of replaced Gary Crowton at BYU. He's been nothing but solid for BYU, and developed Max Hall and Harvey Unga into great players.

6. Frank Cignetti (OC Pitt, Quarterbacks coach)
He was the Saints' QB coach from 00-01. I haven't checked how well they did that year. He has QB coached a number of other programs. The Pitt offense is only ranked 39th in the country, but they have been a big surprise under Cignetti who took over this year.

Good OCs we won't get because they are coordinating for their alma mater:

Bryan Harsin (OC Boise State)
Galen Hall (OC Penn State)
David Shaw (OC Stanford)
Paul Chryst (OC Wisconsin)

Great OCs who would be decent replacements for Les Miles:

Greg Davis (OC Texas)

Not waiting for HC at Texas..waiting for a non-dead-end HC gig elsewhere..sheesh!

If we could pry Greg Davis from the 'Horns w/ a little more money that would be awesome. Great developer of QB's, easier system to learn, and offenses are consistently in the top 10

David Shaw from Stanford. He doesn't run a gimmicky, bullshite offense like those mountain west coaches or those hot names out of C-USA. I think it would be a stud hire.

What are people's thoughts about Kevin Sumlin at Houston? I have a friend that works for him and has great things to say..they think he'll take over a big-time program after this year or next....of course we will probably keep Miles a few more years so this is prolly moot.

david shaw doesnt call plays, harbaugh does.
i think we have a shot at chryst, he wants to be a HC now and LSU gives a better oppurtunity. defineitley a power run guy with lots of screens
dykes is the man, he adjusts to personnel and has done wonders with both his quarterbacks

applewhite is runningbacks coach and i think likely takes over as OC when mack leaves / davis retires.
chuck long and steve kragthorpe are possibilities
holgorsen may be a little too pass happy for miles
dirk koetter was also being mentioned

Saban ran LSU's defense but Muschamp turned out to be a great D-coordinator. Coaches have to start somewhere. Shaw's absorbing all of Harbaugh's knowledge, just like Muschamp did.

I love his offense but I know little else about him tbh. I'm an x's and o's geek, and I freak out about the Air Raid and the Run 'n Shoot

Davis has been a Horn since 1998, and Texas lets winning coaches stay ages..Reese the swim coach 32 yrs..Jody Conradt until retiring..Brown, Barnes, Garrido,etc..at a decade..

I've lived in Austin, top 5 US city, it plus the ease of winning, and abundance of Tejas talent,etc..

For many of those coaches, it's as much Hill Country lifestyle, as it is great pay, working at the most stacked Big-12 deck to deal from(LARGE national winners too in most any UT program)..

Think of how LSU Football fan felt heading into the 2005, 2006, 2007 years..or LSU Basketball 1980 and 1990..or LSU Baseball 1996 or 1997..

Well, that's what Horn fans generally have to work with, heading into most any season in most every sport.
