Yeah that's what I'm thinking. But Johnson's got some variation on what he does, I think he'd adapt to the program. He's a good coach.

The option is fricking horrible. There is a reason that hardly any teams run it now. I would cry if PJ became our coach, it would be the end of LSU football.

I hope this is sarcasm.

I guess that's impressive in your books?
No but a win against UGA this year is.

Yeah, because that really defines your team.
What if you took an undefeated #1 Bama to overtime? Would that be as impressive?
I'm tired of trying to follow your goofy arse logic...

No sarcasm. Are you from the 50's to 70's and enjoy watching boring offense that is all but dead? I understand that trends and fads are cyclical, but I don't ever want to see LSU run the option on a consistent basis. The spread is nothing more than the run-n-shoot, and people still haven't figured it out.

Be sure to watch the GT game....leading the country in plays of 20+ yards is far from boring.

It'll never work against an SEC team!

The option can be very exciting and very successful, even against SEC teams. Anyone remember the '05 Sugar Bowl? WVU, running a shotgun option, beat UGA, and should have blown them out. WVU's run of success from that season until last season was all based upon their shotgun spread option offense that Michigan is paying Rich Rodriguez a lot of money to implement right now. Maybe they should have hired Paul Johnson...
WVU also proved that you don't need four and five star recruits to run this kind of offense, just highly specialized players. Pat White was a two star. Steve Slaton was a three. Owen Shmitt wasn't recruited at all. Paul Johnson can definitely have success, even without big name recruits. As long as he can find the right kind of players for his system.
That said, when coaches face it on a consistent basis, they figure it out. WVU's offense has had nothing against the South Florida defense for years now, and they've become equally ineffective against Pitt. When Rodriguez left, they hired Wake Forest's QB coach to run their offense because the HC wanted to increase the use of the pass.
WVU lit up OU for 48 but scored 9 at home against Pitt last year. These offenses can be tremendous, but have a tendency to get figured out.

Imagine if a school can run this offense and also have a Crowton type offense as well. They could run a spread or wishbone at any time. That would be impossible to stop if a talented team could learn all those plays.

I won't respond to the Paul Johnson replacing Les Miles part of the question, but I will say that I'd be suspect of an offense that basically ignores the passing game. Sure, it's worked for Navy and it worked pretty well for Tech this season, but in a league with defenses as fast as the SEC, allowing them to key in 95% on the run doesn't sound like a recipe for success. Also, I'm assuming this kind of offense would not appeal to a lot of talented QBs and WRs, sort of limiting our recruiting options.
Sorry Tigerwaffe, I was not trying to go there just asking what our fans would think if this type coach was hired at LSU.

The triple option is certainly not a gimmick.
