Great shots; but there has to be an acknowledgement of the use of super jungle juice(if you know what I mean) and the minus 5 plus bats that were used then. I mean this is pretty much a fact.

Not according to the Doc, that just turned pop ups into HRs.

In all seriousness, I'm with you man. During the Olympic Baseball Team's BP sessions in 1996 (using the -5 bats), Warren Morris was putting balls into bleachers never hit by the likes of Fred McGriff. Warren Morris!!

With just about 55 names mentioned, it's clear that no one knows.

IDK, it seems to me that two HRs have assumed "cult status"

-Lyle Mouton HR tat went over the married student housing

-Brad Wilkerson HR that hit Tiger Stadium (At least that what some would have you believe )

in a game, the farthest by far ive ever seen at the box was mouton. there are multiple reports of him hitting the student housing window unit, etc. i remember seeing him hit on on the roof. it was ridiculous. harry barrios hit some practice homeruns which were incredible. just thought id mention barrios. he put on a ymca hitting clinic with todd walker that left a lasting impression.

I'm talking about Mantle's record for length. What are you talking about?

My point was that the "juiced ball era" was in ther 90's. Comparing college players to a freak of nature like Mickey Mantle is ridiculous.

But all things aren't equal, because you have a lighter bat. Stop embarrassing yourself.

So even though I explained to you that lighter bats produce greater bat speed, you couldn't make the correlation that the lighter bat (and subsequently quicker bat speed) was the variable in my equation? Why should I be embarrassed?

Aw, what the hell do I know. It' not like I've homered in Alex Box Stadium from both sides of the plate including one that landed on Nicholson Drive long before the lighter bats were avaialble.

I'll give you two reasons.

#1 = "Comparing college players to a freak of nature like Mickey Mantle is ridiculous."

#2 = "So even though I explained to you that lighter bats produce greater bat speed, you couldn't make the correlation that the lighter bat (and subsequently quicker bat speed) was the variable in my equation?"

You're not even understanding the issues.

Jose Cruz Jr. killed one in a regional that I think went over the light tower and came down with ice on it.

#1. That there is no evidence that lighter bats have resulted in more remarkable tape measure shots.

#2. That it is obvious that having a bat which maximizes bat speed is not the same thing as havig a bat which maximizes distance on your best shots.

I'm done with this thread.

The Super Regional Game 3 was the best hitting performance of any LSU Team I've ever seen. The Back to back to back ones; the one hit by Dishon, the two by Schimpf and the finale of Haydel hitting the last homerun at the box was awesome!

Who was the guy from UF who hit the shot that bounced off the Athletic Admin building??

That was Brad Wilkerson. But it was a foul ball.

Mouton could swing the bat pretty good for a basketball player...

You just don't get it. If 2 balls are struck sending the ball on the exact same trajectory, the ball that is struck by the object with the greater velocity will travel farther. The reason balls don't travel farther when struck closer to the handle is because the bat speed is greater at the end of the bat. It's the same principle for golf clubs. Try putting the head of a driver on the shaft for a pitching wedge and see if the ball goes as far as it does on the driver shaft.

I saw Brad Hawpe long @ the Box and another that topped that one he hit in Arkansas and don't think any other ones topped those two unless it was Eddie Furniss the year before.

An ageless debate that will go on forever. Or at least until someone unloads on one at the new box this season.

The two that I have personnally seen that I would consider monster shots were Cresse against USL (it did not hit the roof of the student housing, but one hopped to the building)
And the Brad Wilkerson foul ball in '97, if memory serves correct it was still climbing when it left the ball park and cleared Nicholson and the oak trees on the other side of Nicholson, and cleared them well I might add. Now I dont know if it hit the Admin Building, but it is by far the furthest I have ever seen a baseball hit, pro, college or otherwise. Even though that was a foul ball, I think he did follow it up with a HR into Nicholson, but not as much a monster as the foul.

Wilkerson
