re: Funkie Atmosphere at the game....

I noticed even on TV the game just seemed as flat and emotionless for a Tiger Stadium night game as I can remember in recent times.

Actually it does, indirectly. If you maximize profits at LSU for the near term, you will necessarily erode the LSU brand for the long term.
BDS's atmosphere is probably even less rowdy than what y'all are describing TS. It has been since 1988.
Alabama is also in the Top 5 in merchandise sales.

You and your Bama propaganda really don't belong in this thread. LSU is different.

Your coonasses will still buy merchandise just like our rednecks. I don't really see the difference. As long as LSU wins, they'll sell well.

I felt the same way also but the question is how will the UGA and Bama atmosphere be? Miss. St. hasn't come close to us the last couple of times we played them so I figure many people thought we'd roll all over them, like Tulane.

I think it has to do with the build up of the UGA and BAMA games all off-season too. All people talked about or thought about were those 2 games, and they feel like our other games aren't very important. The South Endzone was pretty rowdy for the td's, but everybody was sitting down for the rest of the game.

I'll give the fans a break on their salute to the LSU baseball team. That was rousing thank you from the Tiger fans. That was about as loud as we got last night save maybe the Moo State first and goal near the students.

Agree with assessment. I have had my own season tickets for the past ten years and I have sat in them twice. My friends and I go sit in the same spot everygame in the student section. The Intensity for big games is great. Games like last night they clear out pretty quick and you can spread out. But the funkie atmosphere comes with winning. The place is great for the big games you are unsure a victory, Fla, Aub, Ala, Tenn, UGA, but the games you expect to win it almost like going through the motions. When we were a middle of the road program, the majority of the games were always in question so the atmosphere is intense. Still in all no place I would rather be on a Sat. Night! I still get chill bumps when the band comes on the field.!

i'll take 10, preferably in sections 102-104, 20-30 rows up...
thanks.
I was in 103 20 rows up, on the 50! Great seats. Not mine, but great seats. I normally go with a buddy in the upper west in the bottom few rows. I still would have traded anything to be in the student section. Nobody around me even stood up unless we scored. My wife was trying to get me to sit down. I've been watching the tiger since I could walk, no way I was sitting down when we are up against the goaline and trying to make a stand! F-that! Not my normal seats, but I don't care if the "regulars" are billionares who are there for the "in" situation, I'm cheering! Not my fault if they can't see!

FWIW-
I think it has more to do with the caliber of the opponent more than anything else. We are spoiled as fans and come to expect LSU to take care of business against those teams that we "should" beat. Last year, all the last minute comebacks, the heroics, triple overtime, makes for an electric atmosphere. I believe that in two weeks against Florida, the electricity will be back in Tiger stadium and without a doubt against the Gumps, the house WILL be rockin'.

Being really old is a valid excuse for just about everything, and then you get to yell to the younger people around you, "Yeah, I'm funky, SO WHAT! I'm old as shite, and I don't give a frick anymore, so all you youngsters better just stop your complaining and learn to live with my funk!"

. I would love to replace a lot of the "socialite" fans with blue-collar coon-asses who would kill for the chance to come yell their lungs out at every game.

That doesn't make money for the department.

I agree with Bayou. I actually signed on to the Rant to see if there was a post about this: I kept thinking while watching on TV that there just wasn't much NOISE. Game was on ESPN 2 and they didn't have the A-team working the game. I was wondering if they had cut down on the number of on-the-field microphones tracking the game or something. It was so strangely quiet. (For those of you who were at the game, if you check out the replay of the game on TV or if you look back over your DVR if you recorded the game, you can check it out) . . .
