LSU strength and conditioning coordinator Tommy Moffitt was a guest on “Culotta and the Prince” on 104.5/104.9 ESPN Radio in Baton Rouge to recap the team’s conditioning test Monday, which marked the beginning of summer workouts. “I know Leonard get a lot of press about his weight and all that,” Moffitt said. “But our fan base can rest assured that the big man came out this morning and destroyed it.”
A picture surfaced on social media of a shirtless running back tandem of Fournette and sophomore Derrius Guice looking extremely fit. “(Fournette) for his size was phenomenal,” Moffitt continued. “I don’t remember a back in recent history that was impressive on their conditioning test as that guy was.”
Moffitt praised Fournette for his perfect attendance during May’s voluntary workouts during the NCAA’s discretionary period.

think Leonard was 235 or 233 (pounds) or so during spring,” Miles said Thursday on the “Paul Finebaum Show.” “We want him right around 225. So that his strength and speed are kind of maximized. He’s an elite guy and he wants to be in an elite body as he goes into the fall. I think that certainly this summer will provide him that opportunity.
I agree 240 isnt optimal weight. His most effective weight is probably 225-233. I just dont think being 240 is such a huge problem. He was the fastest player on the field at 235. 5 more lbs isnt some huge weight issue, imo anyway

Apparently he carried the weight really well at the combine according to Yahoo

Fournette, on the other hand, doesn’t have nearly the same concerns, despite checking in at the combine at 240 pounds. That weight is higher than the 235 he was listed at by LSU and it raised a few eyebrows during the weigh-in. Not because Fournette was heavier than expected, but because he appeared to carry the weight very well. One evaluator said Fournette wasn’t “doughy” and looked like 240 wouldn’t be problematic. But it also put more focus on the speed drills.

LSU'S official football roster in 2015 has him at 235
But they also have him at 235 for the 2014 roster so they may have just used 235 for his profile.

Well according to this, his goal was 225
LINK
So if that is true, lets see if he runs

Fournette is down to 227 pounds, about two pounds shy of his goal of 225, and he’s run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash during training, his father said.

How many pages is Leonard Fournette's 5lb morning crap gonna make? O/U at 14?

Yea I have Lindy and Athlon they both have him at 230. LSUs media guide his freshman year is 225. Just wondering where you saw it sports reference is usually accurate but you know how college measurements are. I prefer him at 225 I think that's his best weight. A lot of guys think they need extra weight to take the NFL pounding but it usually backfires. Laveon Bell is a great example of what can happen when you drop weight and become harder to hit. Adrian Peterson is another guy who always stayed between 225-228 and you see what he's done. I'm not a fan of packing on pounds.

Agreed.

Probably so. Best weight to maximize speed while not being a detriment to power.

Ricky williams is a great example. Played college ball at 225 got to Nola around 236 then up to 240 by his second year. He did ok but then was traded to Miami got on a new diet and dropped to 225 and led the NFL, went for over 1,800 yards and changed his career. NFL is a little different too now days defenses are smaller 225 is plenty and he can use every bit of speed he has to hit the home run plays.

But that doesn't mean he's necessarily out of shape here either
Out of shape is a relative term. Obviously, he's not out of shape compared to most people. But, he's not at his optimal weight. And, this is an important event. You'd think he'd want to be at his peak. It begs a few questions about that ankle, IMO.

He wanted to make sure his ankle was good so trainers told him to be easy...with the free time he probably hit a couple king cakes, and made some trips to popeyes. Will be surprised if he runs slower than a 4.4 40.
