Well now a coach can coach without Dye trying to get him fired.

About that tie.....

Radio station in Syracuse goes on the air and tells its' listeners to send the ugliest tie they have to Dye. So we get hundreds of these things. Somebody has a brain fart there and says lets make a quilt and see how ugly it looks. So Dye takes this thing on the rubber chicken circuit and first stop they auction it off. $500 for the scholarship fund. They throw it into high gear in Auburn and crank out about 30 of them. Raise almost $20k in scholarship money.

McPherson was pissed that Dye went for the tie and told him at the end of the game. Dye's comment was, well, you should have gone for it on 4th on your last possession.

Pat Dye was the Auburn coach in the famous Earthquake Game of 1988. Classic old school SEC football. 7-6.

HFC at Auburn from '81-'92

Played LSU four times ('81, '88, '89, & '91)

His only loss to LSU was in the Earthquake Game in '88.

Godspeed Coach.

What I remember most is the quote of Mike Archer after the earthquake game. Archer said that " Dye was nothing but class after a gut wrenching defeat". Auburn dominated the game only to lose at the end.
