I suffered a mild concussion in high school from a helmet to helmet shot. I did not lose consciousness and I was "out of it" for days. I guarantee he won't be able to run around or even stand bright lights for about a week or so.

And that's probably the best case scenario. I've seen guys get knocked out and it be a few weeks before the coaches would let them play. If he would take another hit like that within a few weeks if he may end up in a wheelchair or worse.

I would prepare for John Brantley to be the starting QB...it would be a miracle if he was 100% recovered (and that is what I understand you have to be back to) to be cleared to play.

If he has suffered a concussion before, then they would have his cat scan from his previous and when he was fully recovered to determine a baseline for his brain and then they could estimate a return.

they have a bye week. He'll more than likely play

How does the bye week factor in at all to how soon he comes back from a concussion.

All of this begs the question: "other than the race for the Heisman Trophy, why would you keep Tebow in the game when your up by thirty something points anyway".

Florida usually keeps him in blowout games until late 4th quarter, which is stupid on their part. Sooner or later an injury is going to happen!

He will have 2 weeks rather than 1 to recover from it.

The best comment I have yet to see on this site lately - my thoughts exactly. Why on earth is he running the ball that much as well 30 points up?

Sure that's the way he does it - but why not save yourself all those hits when you are up 30. To me the coaching staff ought to have their heads examined as well. Its just not sound strategy and its a good idea to get the back up some reps.

Now if this Brantley does end up playing, he has little to no big game experience so far as I am aware of.

Tebow should not be playing so late in the games.

How long was Hatch out last year?? He had almost an identical injury (getting knee'd in the head by a moving player while falling to the ground).

Easier to prepare for Tebow. We know what he brings. This other QB would change their gameplan considerably.

This is like saying "I hope Peyton Manning plays because we really don't know what Sorgi is gonna give them."

If Tebow plays and LSU does win, everyone will say he was dinged and he was heroic to even play. If he doesn't play and LSU wins, everyone will say "Yeah, but no Tebow so does it really count?"

I'd rather take my chances with the backup. I don't wish injuries to anyone (even Tebow), but as long as this one is already there I hope LSU can get something out of it.

When this happens they will get the persons heart rate up. If the signs and symptoms don't come back they are usually cleared to play.

Not if he were my son. Screw FL. If the chance he would have a similar injury predispose him to greater danger had he not had the first trauma? Not too many series on that one, I'd bet. LSU fan or not, keep him out for at least 4 weeks. That is unless winning the NC is more important than the athlete.

If you ever need to be careful with any injury then it should be a concussion.

Don't want to end up like Ali in 25 yrs.

Real Sports on HBO just had a segment on concussions amongst high school players. A second concussion before the first has healed can cause death. Healing is 2-6 (or longer) weeks.

The biggest problem is players lying about their symptoms. "No, coach, my head doesn't hurt at all." The man-up play-while-hurt attitude works against young people.

There is actually a test now that players can be given - a baseline before the season & then after a concussion. An injured brain doesn't work as well. I would be interested to know if LSU uses this test.

The fact that he lost consciousness, showed little to no movement, and had labored breathing for more than a minute or two following the hit was a very bad sign. He may not have any cranial damage or any bleeding/hemmoraging, but its still a risky thing for him to play.

In most cases, a player taking that hit is out from any play for 2 weeks (meaning practice and games), much less going into a full contact game.

What worries me is that I don't want to have to deal with LSU players holding back because of fear of hurting Tebow if he does play, and that will most certainly happen. This will change the whole game.

he has the heart, but that is irrelivant for this call.

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Tim Tebow will be that man. We can make him better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster"

If Tebow lies to his coaches about his injury, or if Meyer chooses to play him knowing that he's not 100%, then why should LSU take it easy on him?

Why don't the students call his cellphone and find out if he plans on playing against LSU?

It's called IMPACT testing. I'm pretty sure LSU uses it.
