For those making the Chambliss-Clark breakout comparison

Totally unfair to Clark. He has a ton of potential and upside. But based on his last season at Elon before transferring to LSU, vs. Chambliss' last season at Ferris St. before transferring to Ole Miss, and the fact that Chambliss was 23 years old his transfer year vs. Clark being 20 his transfer year, this really is an unfair comparison or expectation.
Chambliss in 15 games at Ferris St. (14-1 record, DII national championship):
- 2,925 Passing yds, 226 of 367 (61.6%), 26 TDs, 6 INTs
- 1,019 Rushing yds, 171 carries (5.96 YPC), 25 TDs
Clark in 12 games at Elon (6-6 record) :
- 2,321 Passing yds, 155 of 327 (56%), 18 TDs, 8 INTs
- 614 Rushing yds, 189 carries (3.25 YPC), 11 TDs

I don't disagree that it's a little unfair to assume the same rapid ascension will happen.
With that said, I disagree that your reasoning really supports that argument.
Competition notes:
Ferris State was a DII powerhouse that steamrolled a lot of overmatched GLIAC and playoff opponents. Clark’s Elon team opened at Duke, beat Western Carolina on the road, and played ranked CAA teams (Villanova, Rhode Island).
FCS CAA football is a higher baseline than even good DII. A 6-6 record against that slate, with a first-year full-time starter taking 35 sacks, is a different competitive environment than a national-championship DII machine.
Clark’s 3.25 YPC is polluted ( ~vs. 5.34 YPC) by those sacks and a weaker supporting cast; Chambliss’s 5.96 YPC came on a team that outscored people by hundreds of points.
Age and experience follow up note:
Clark was a state-championship QB who produced at a ridiculous clip in Virginia, then produced immediately at FCS. Chambliss was a zero-star who needed years at Ferris State before the portal even noticed him.

We are in trouble if he starts. He's second string for a reason.

You make some good points i can get behind on the competition level. Clark didn't produce immediately at FCS though, he only appeared in four games his true freshman season in 2024, before taking over the job as starter in 2025.
I think with his talent and intangibles, he'll do great things at LSU. Just may take him some time to put it all together.

I agree. Consider this in his corner which may help him climb quickly:
- LSU Defense taking pressure off him by reducing what he'll actually have to do (the biggest factor!)
- LSU Offense - surrounded by talent, elite coaching and a scheme that he is tailor fit for and has been working within for half a year.

Yeha I love LC but he didn't even come to college as a full time QB. He is still a work in in progress
I think we'll need LCs legs as well as Longstreet's arm to beat Ole Piss.. assuming Sam can't go.

Look at his hilight reel in this thread again....he's hitting guys in stride 40,50yds down field, one throw is 62yds in the air.... arm strength is NOT an issue

Do you think people thought that about Burrow at Ohio State?

Burrow took years to develop. It even took him almost his entire first season to develop. Light didn't come on for him until the back part of his first year starting. Thinking Clark is Burrow in his first ever start in a hostile environment that's 2x worse than the average considering the circumstances is not even a comparison. So like I said above, Lane put him second string for a reason. What you see in Chambliss is an anomaly not the norm.

Unfair comparison, Chambliss had 4 years of experience before getting to Ole Piss

Well theoretically, he could be 95% percent as good as Leavitt and still be second string, and in that case, I like our chances.

You keep saying he's second string for a reason, implying he is good enough to be the starter. He's second string because Leavitt is better. That is not the same.
Curious who you thought thinks he is going to be Burrow in this situation? I used Burrow as an example of a QB who was good enough to start but did not because the player starting ahead of him was a proven commodity by the time he was healthy enough to play.
Burrow's first start at LSU was against #8 Miami at a neutral site.

That's exactly what I'm saying. He sits behind Leavitt because Lane doesn't think he's as good right now. It's really that simple. He thinks Leavitt gives him the best chance to win. So if Clark is starting this weekend there's major concern. People keep bringing up Chambliss that situation is not normal and clearly even Lane didn't see it because he would've started. Can Clark end up like that? Yeah, but highly unlikely.
Leavitt is rusty right now he's only going to get better the more he plays.

Agreed.

It most certainly is a concern.
