This is the same coach who cleaned smoke's mess up in 2 years! The same coach who has won 3 SEC tournements and the SEC out right in 4 years.
THE SAME COACH WHO WON A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP LAST YEAR!!!!
Did anyone see us winning the SEC tournement in April and may????? Hell no, but he did. The guy is a great coach who is a human being. Be happy we have him because we could always have coach laval back.

Mainieri was never gonna win a NC this year and we all knew it. We lost to much from last year's team, yet you bitch when the obvious happens.

Just stfu and enjoy the fact that our baseball program has a bright future ahead.

Just some FYI..

When Smoke was here there were people saying the same thing while making comments about us making it to the CWS 2 times.

Now I think CPM is a much better coach but it is funny that people were here on this site saying that he should have one more year etc..

the difference with smokes two omaha trips and PM omaha trips is that smoke make ohama the first 2 years after skip left, so he still had skips players and smoke couldn't keep good players in, then pm can in got some real good players and got back to omaha in 2 years and a national championship in 3.

did you give CLM a pass based on the same?

doubtful

IMO, stop blowing whichever coach you approve of while beating the drum to fire the ones you don't

Yes I do think CPM had to do some rebuilding to get us there. Im certainly not advocating that he needs to go the way of Smoke. Just saying that there were people on this board claiming that we should stick with Smoke because he got us to the CWS 2 times.

My biggest issues with CPM is his inexperienced assistants. LSU should in no means have a pitching coach learning on the job without a qualified mentor to learn from. Also having Sanchez as our hitting coach and his 3rd base coaching ability has not been great. But I simply do not see how any LSU pitcher will ever be developed here under Grewe. We had a great pitching coach before him and instead of hiring another great pitching coach he hired a buddy with zero experience coaching pitchers.

Agreed! I've always said this, and I’ll say it again. LSU has some of best fans, but unfortunately also some of the stupidest fans in all of sports.

I'm not calling for PM's head, but seeing the team go from looking like last year's to looking like none of them gave a frick 2/3rds of the way through the season was disheartening and it's almost always put on the coach in that situation. There looked to be little motivation or fire from anyone on the team, PM included.

The team still looks lost when facing a pitcher that has decent movement. The team still can't bunt worth a damn either. Been this way for years with little to no improvement, if not moving backwards.

I'm a PM fan. I do think runners on 1st and 2nd no outs, down one run in the 8th, you gotta bunt.

That said, thanks for a very good season LSU baseball coaches and players. We're still the program everyone else wants to be in baseball.

I don't see anybody screaming for Manieri's head. But I do see some questioning of his decisions and a little criticism, which I think is ok.

If you don't think that Manieri himself is beating himself up over the stuff we notice, then you're naiive.

But again, I don't see the correlation some are making that critcism and asking for his head are one in the same. Winning a title is great and all, but if you screw up, you screw up. And pretending like bad coaching didn't happen - quite frankly, ain't gonna fix it. Call it for what it is, correct it, and look forward to the future.

Some of our fans are so damn hyper-sensitive towards critcism of the coaching staff - all hinged on the fact that two of them have won national titles. They're not Gods. They excelled in one particular year and earned some success. Period. They have made mistakes since then. And to not point those mistakes out is being dishonest and foolish.

Again, there's a big difference between bashing and questioning decisions made.

If I am a position player and collectively the players are putting up the same number of runs as 2009, and the pitchers collectively shite their pants for two months, I think it might be a tad irritating to say the least. To know you might have to put up 10 runs to have a chance of winning is a joke.

To those who dont think PM can get the job done...not everyone is fricken Skip Bertman...that man is legendary and you can't expect a nc every year from anyone in college baseball anymore...Paul Mainieri is a very good baseball coach who will have LSU back at the top within the next couple of years
