Same for linebackers. We seem content on signing local 3 stars rather than going after every 5 star. If we did, eventually we'd hit on a few.

Well, we did go after one local 5*, but he seemed to think he had the right to demand LSU hire (or retain) the head coach he wanted.

If LSU is going to get back in contention for the NC, we need to get the best OL and DL recruits.

We're doing pretty well.
maybe this recruiting class, but otherwise- no, we haven't.

We have everything required to be the best team in the country almost every year, when you look at players weighing 250 lbs or less. NFL receivers, backs, linebackers and DBs. Even with blah QBs, that's enough for us to beat most teams, and destroy a lot (and tease us with potential).
When we go up against the best, we can't compete on the lines.

The quality of O Line recruiting picked up when Grimes came on-board, mainly the last two years. The problem is that there was 0 depth left by the time he got here.

I agree with you on the D Line. With the exception of Key, the recruiting wasn't where it needed to be until last year, but that class was pretty spectacular.

Our current staff still has to prove that they can close the deal with top LBs, which we have struggled to do for years. That said, they do see to be dedicated in bringing in BALANCED classes, which has been an issue for several years. We see a lot more emphasis on the lines, and LB now, rather than just bringing in a ton of DBs and offensive skill players.

Scheme is key. Lsu has top shelf lineman better than bama. Just because Leonard can't run vs bama does not mean the lineman suck.

Your qb is the problem get the damn ball out.

Our seven can't block their 4. They play man on the recievers, zone underneath and pressure the qb. Our oline has consistently underperformed against teams with equal or greater talent on the DL. The strategy of recruiting to "out-athlete" an opponent at the skill positions is very high schoolish.

Tom Osborne said in 1991. "The team that has the best People up front eventually takes control".

You keep telling yourself that. Go watch the bama LSU game from this year. Bama d line made the LSU O line look stupid.

Coaching should be lumped into this discussion too.

mean, Saban gets it and that's the two positions he recruits the hardest. Miles never pushed either line. He fluffed his classes with athletes and receivers.

That's because that is what LA is loaded with. But I thought anyone could win with LA talent Jimmy? That was a knock on Les, get any monkey in here and they can recruit.

Let's hope coach o doesn't finish second like chavis and Haley did with a bunch of d line recruits.

Like Tim Jernigan?, Damn we could have used that guy.

Which is why I like this recruiting class and what O is building right now!

All but one were committed when Les was head coach. So you mean what O is building off the previous coach. Remember, Les gets the blame for the next 3 years.
