They treat visiting fans like shite in Gainesville. UFPD and GPD really abuse their authority on gameday.

They have made UF one of the worst places to visit in the SEC.

Yes, I'm a cop of more than 20 years so I am justified saying this.

its pretty simple to avoid that by following 2 rules:

1) drink your alcoholic drinks in a cup, and on campus. once you cross University Ave, you will be ticketed with it in a cup, whether or not you are a UF fan or an LSU fan

2) don't jaywalk across University Ave

I've flown to both Jax and Orlando for games and prefer Jax. It's faster out of the airport and is a shorter drive. You can get rooms near the airport pretty cheap. You've gotta watch the speed limits through the towns in route because they are speed traps (I've never had a problem).

I have never been but we go to one road game a year and since I have made plans to go all I hear is how bad it is there. Most people seem to say that they have went once and won't go back. Well I will see for myself.

We hang with tiger fans at tailgates near the stadium and there was LOTS of drinking with NO problems. Leaving the tailgates and walking near the stadium is another matter. It almost feels like a military state. Booze in cups was OK but open beer cans will get you arrested. I saw some fans standing on seats after the announcer warned against it and they were ejected before the game even started. They've got some BIG DUDES on that police force.

Jacksonville is about 45 mins using back roads. Orlando is about an hour and a half if I remember correctly.

1.5 hrs from JAX, 2 hrs from MCO, 2 hrs from Tallahassee. Should get good rates flying into MCO and it's an easy drive.

I used to live in Florida and traveled to Gainesville frequently. Actually not a bad place and a cool college town. Haven't been back since I moved away in '99 so I'm sure things have changed a bit since.

Why aren't any of you suggesting just flying straight into Gainesville, when I bought my tickets the prices for flying into Gainesville were just about the same price as flying to surrounding airports. Without all the hassle of having to drive and hour or so.

Yeah, if you stop to piss 5 times or your blind grandma is driving. The speed limit on FL highways is 70 mph but you can go 78 with no concerns about getting pulled over.

We all just assumed the tickets would be more expensive. I've never flown into there but I know it's a small airport which normally means higher fares. If you get a good rate, go for it.

Last time I flew to Jax it was a direct flight from NO. Now you have to change once to get to either Jax or Gainesville and the flight times are about the same (3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hrs). Flying into Gainesville costs about $200 extra though.

When I got the tickets it wasn't much difference in price. But I do have to change planes though, so that is one downfall.

Ive been to Red Stick and mingled with Tiger fans and sat in Tiger section...I can take it and dish it...no problem here...rabid SEC fans and Id rather see a game there than go see Ga Tech in downtown Atlanta as an example.

I hated it when they closed the Purple Porpoise in Gainesville...on gameday it was awesome and you walked on 2 inches of paper napkins and straws, it was packed and fun.

A place I sued to eat at was Farrahs and havent tried it in a few yrs but it pretty good food. The police in Gainesville are bad folks...I used to live in Metairie and theres no comparison to the GPD and Jefferson Parrish Sheriff Dept.

It is much better to drink by your vehicle and leave it before you start walking. UF & LSU fans are both passionate about their teams and you are going to encounter a few idiots every now and then...just as we would in BR...have a good time and enjoy the visit. BTW I live in Tampa Bay area and its about 2 hrs or so from home to stadium...if you left a little early.
