kelvin sheppard said it was as loud as he has ever heard any stadium in his life
lee said it was louder than even he expected

when at field level, it is hard to differentiate between true crowd noise and music being pumped through the loud speakers, BUT...loud is loud i guess

LSU got an eyeful of the Florida Gators' offense and defense Saturday night and an earful of The Swamp.
With or without Ricky Jean-Francois' incendiary comments, a perfect storm of a revenge motive, a hostile crowd and an early big play put LSU in position to be blown out.
After Percy Harvin's 70-yard tip-drill touchdown reception, The Swamp never calmed down during the 51-21 rout.
"It exploded," LSU linebacker Kelvin Sheppard said. "That's as loud as I've heard any stadium since my time here, basically ever in my life. We had stuffed them (on the first two plays of the opening drive), and they were back on their heels a little. That (Harvin's touchdown) gave them a lot of momentum."
It also helped loosen the vocal cords of the 90,000-plus in attendance, and it never abated. The LSU defense wasn't the only victim. Quarterback Jarrett Lee struggled to hear and be heard, and though he had respectable numbers (23-of-38, 209 yards, two touchdowns), he struggled throughout, throwing two interceptions and taking two sacks.
"The environment at Auburn was great, but coming into The Swamp it was so much louder, the environment, the crowd being so close," Lee said. "It really affected the communication, and that's one thing quarterbacks really need to work on. I felt just fine. I had a lot of confidence. It was just a little louder than I expected."
LSU players said Florida was more jacked up than most opponents, partly because of last year's 28-24 loss to LSU at Tiger Stadium. The early big play just made it more difficult for the Tigers.
"They were definitely emotionally higher than you usually see, and everything went their way," Sheppard said.
Said linebacker Darry Beckwith: "They brought their A game. They were ready to play and did a great job of executing what they wanted to do."

The music that they played was pretty loud... I guess when they did the chomp in unison it got loud at some point, but other than that I was unimpressed.

It was very loud just like Tiger Stadium. But I think that the seats are on top of each other and real close to the field. We have 92,000 fans with upper decks they have 90,000 fans with no upper decks

Guys, where we were sitting it was f'ing loud .. section 45 ... I had my headphones on at full volume and had to press them hard to my ears to hear. I wonder if it is like that there for all games ... and that piped in music was WAY loud ...
Does anyone have any idea why the UF students don't sit by the band? Some one posted that the Florida students were sitting by OUR band. Just found that odd.

So how many of you were actually on the field, trying to communicate with another person?

It was frickin loud in there. It took them announcing a USC loss for ours to get that loud.

Crowd mics are against NCAA rules. They qualify as "artifical noise makers". I've always thought it was lame when schools used a mic for their band or their cheerleaders, but putting mics at field level to amplify the crowd noise isn't fair. Can you imagine what TS would be like if LSU did that?

True, but there is huge difference between a couple of hundred cowbells ringing and mics that amplify the sound of 90,000 screaming people.

The crowd noise at UF is incredible. Y'all can take your finger off the trigger on this one and begrudgingly admit that.

I'm not denying that it is. I'm just saying that they have an unfair advantage if they use mics to make it even louder.

Death Valley loud = The Swamp loud

I don't like the piped music but it didn't play while the game was being played. As I remember it only played during time outs, half time, pre game, etc. The crowed noise was not mic'd. It's been like that during many big games since I've been going over the years. It seems louder to me than Tiger stadium and I think it's because of the stadium geometry. I couldn't hear myself think and I really don't understand how any QB could effectively direct a complicated offense in that environment.

I was curious about this so I emailed a buddy of mine who is a UF alum. He said that while they technically don't mic the crowd, they do leave the band mics on during the game, so crowd noise is amplified to an extent through the speakers.

I didn't go to the game last weekend, so I can't comment on the noise level then. However, I have been to the Swamp on 2 previous occasions. It is very loud, but I don't think it's as loud as TS gets when it's at its best.

Interesting about the band mic's. The UF band was so pathetic I still couldn't hear them. The LSU road band on the other hand - VOILA!!!

I was sitting right behind the team on the first row on the 48 yd line and it was damn loud. I was about 6-7 feet from the players and I had to yell at the top of my lungs to get them to hear me. Not sure how they didn't get more false starts or blown plays.
