We'll win 30% of those games

Bama's too balanced, so we may as well agree that we have to beat Bama to win the West.
I guarantee you that, at the end of the season, Bama will be far enough ahead of us that you could reverse the outcome of our loss to them and they would still win the division.

Lose to Bama and he's toast (I hope).
That hasn't worked for two years, even though he's also thrown in back to back losses to Florida and Ole Miss, plus additional losses to Georgia, Arkansas and Penn State for good measure. The administration and fans at LSU are perfectly content to concede the SEC West to Alabama and play for second place every year.
Most LSU fans, and ALL its administrators (except Mark Emmert), have developed a mentality of mediocrity over decades and generations. Unfortunately, eight good years to start the new millenium was not enough to change that. Not only are we not an elite program, the people who could make us one don't even want us to be.

Because we did it a couple drives earlier in the game with JL at the reigns. Thats why.
It also failed to do anything on every other possession of the second half, regardless of who the QB was. Hell, even in the first half, we only had one score. Two good drives out of 54 minutes worth of possessions does not translate to "a very good chance" of scoring on that one.

Exactly, you answered your own question. Ever heard of a thing called big MO!

It is possible but not likely!

By your logic, Julio Jones, having been shut down for the most of the game had low odds of making a huge play for a TD... and yet it happened. And if you are inclined to argue that PP being out of the game or Brandon Taylor being illegally blocked legitimizes this exception, then you can't reasonably argue the counterpoint exception-- that making a spectacular interception near midfield is potentially a game changing momentum shift. It far from guarantees that LSU would've scored, but I've seen this sort of play energize a team and they suddenly smell blood and execute a little better while the other team tightens up and just tries to hold on. You have no basis to say it couldn't have happened; 112th ranked offense or not, we found the endzone in this game with Lee at QB and Ridley at RB already and the refs blatantly robbed us of our best opportunity to do so again. It's water under the bridge now-- Bama was a better team last year, but we played them close and were a couple bad calls away from stealing a win from them... not even to get into shitty luck with PP, JJ and Scott.

To say that we will beat both teams is crazy. To say that we can't beat both, or either team, is equally crazy.
Very well said, and concise
We had a chance in every game last year despite having the 112th ranked offense. I expect the entire team, and the offense in particular, to improve next year; and at a minimum LSU will have a puncher's chance in every game.

Like others have said, I think we are capable of beating either team. As good as they both are right now, the odds of beating both of them in any one season are fairly long.
Of course, we have hung tough with Bama each of the last two years. With better QB play, we would have won in '08 going away, and without the injuries in last year's game (including Peterson's frequent, and costly, absenses due to cramps), things might well have been different.
We hung pretty well with UF last year, and their only TD was courtesy of uncalled offensive holding on our DB, but our own offense never generated anything, so that game wasn't as close as the final score indicated. On the other hand, one long play, and we might have won that one as well.
Bottom line, I like our odds to beat one of them this year (probably Bama) but it will always be tough to beat them both, especially since we will always play one or the other on the road in any particular year. And that would be the situation no matter who is coaching for us.

Well GC and Miles beat them both in 07'. They took Bama to OT in 08' with a freshman QB. If PP gets the INT call, we have a very good chance of winning last year. I would say it is likely that we can beat them. I think we beat both this year. Call me crazy but thats my opinion.
I see what you did and that is just crazy. LOL at you trying to use logic in here.

I like our chances against Shorty this year because they lost their starting 3 defensive linemen, their dominant MLB, and a couple of DBs...not easy to replace...and a couple of OL and their tight end...on the other hand, LSU will have a serious running game to take pressure off the QB and rest the defense more. Our kicking game will be outstanding, whereas, they lost their kicker...JMHO

i think we beat both but im thinking we slip up somewhere.its hard to win them all.i say 11-1
Posted on 3/30/10 at 5:47 pm to Phil2012
They could play with 8 players and we would still get outcoached.
Posted on 3/30/10 at 5:54 pm to NightTrainLane13
yeah, we played them better than any of their opponents did all last season.

God I hope this team kicks arse this year. Then we will not only get to enjoy our team kicking arse but also watch the internet tough guys (i) eat serious crow, (ii) make excuses that become more and more strained as the year goes on or (iii) totally jump on the bandwagon like the schizophrenic fans that they are.

I really pray that we come out and just mop the floor with UNC this September. I want to see any of these chicken littles come out crying then. It's unbelievable that a PUBLIC PRACTICE in the middle of MARCH has made this board meltdown just as much as it had after the Cap One Bowl lose.

They are awful fans. I wish they would pick another team.

We get them both this year and next year IMO.
