@Hammertime.

when you make talk about LSU v.s. other schools. You need to know what the financial situations at other schools look like. Financial statements at most public schools are public and most schools actually file annual reports. You can go look at them for your self. Look at Michigan or Berkley or Geogia and you'd realize how little tuition dollars matter for these schools, they are often 10% or less. You should take some time to look at what LSU numbers and compare them to top public school. Also the rest of your comments wreak of ignorance. Every research university collects overheads from grants. This is standard practice.

Freshman living on campus? Many Flagship research schools did that years ago.

Raise tuition ? LSU's tuition is about the national average and its less than Bamas, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida.

Hiring contracts and faculty teaching loads are also standard. If LSU expects to compete with flagship schools it cannot expect faculty to teach more than other flagship schools. The moment it does that it will compete for faculty with south eastern rather than ole miss. So graduate students teaching classes says a lot about the financial health of the school.

Research universities are almost peer ranked. Basically they are scored by deans of other schools. The measure deans use are academic rankings based on research productivity. Schools know what they have to do to raise their rank. Hire star faculty who are productive research. Not every school has the money or initiative to do that.

If LSU wanted to build up business school or law school to the standard of top 50 university, they'd have to hire several senior faculty at 250K-300K a year salaries. Resources LSU does not devote.

I know I am wasting my breath here. The alumni are of course experts on everything. We might as let you run the school. I mean firing a guy with this record, was the best decision you guys made right :

He ruined LSU football right ?

If any change needs to lsu is to actually get the admissions standards up to Alabama, Georgia, Florida. Then we might see progress 20 years from now.

This. Basically anyone can get into LSU now. A lot of them barely meet admit requirements and then still get free tuition.
LSU needs to be a bit prestigious. It needs to mean something to get into LSU. Give that admissions letter some value. Unfortunately with the state being broke and LSU needing money they are going to beg every student they can. They give lots of free tuition to underrepresented groups to stay politically correct. LSU is in a tough spot. Can't afford to turn people down but don't want to become seen as politically incorrect.

Maybe you missed the point. My point was that everyone thinks the bottom magically fell out of LSU, and it is going bankrupt. That is not the case. Their budget has been increasing. They have been firing people and cutting departments for years.

Everything they do is about getting more money so they can waste more of it doing basically nothing. The financial situation hasn't changed, and it might have even been getting better since all of the firings. What do we have to show for it? A university that is less respected now than it was 10 years ago.

Revenues and haven't ever been a problem. Administration has, though.

I don't think you know too much about what has gone on at LSU in the past 10 years, because they let many really good, respected teachers go, and replaced them with completely inexperienced grad students who had no place being in front of a class. They don't hire star faculty unless they can bring in money. If they aren't bringing in enough money, they get cut.

I agree on the admissions standards, but the administration plays the largest role in the problems there
