I don't think people are accepting mediocrity. Nobody is happy about this season, but some just want to give him another year to see if he can turn it around. I'm not saying that's the right or wrong move, but that's what some people think.
If he stays for next year & has a subpar season...I think 99% of the people on here will want him gone.
