IF LSU opts to do this, and I happen to think it would not be a bad concept to attempt, look for Bama to go more run heavy.

What this COULD accomplish, though, is what I posted about a few days ago. You try and eliminate the big play, and make Bama matriculate down the field. Make Bama run more plays, which increases chances for a miscue, turnover, or penalty. It also shortens the game.

Worth noting - all 5 of our top receivers are in the top 51 in yards per reception. Basically, 10% of the top 50 in the nation in ypr wears a Bama jersey. Bama has thrived on big plays and long TD passes.

Valid points in the 2nd paragraph, but it also keeps our offense off the field if this turns into a lot of runs for Bama. So that is a way Bama could counter the LSU plan.

In the 3rd paragraph, this maybe true on the WR production and Tua's yards per pass is crazy high, but this has been against some very weak defenses. Now if Bama does it to LSU, I will be the first to give credit. Right after I say "Screw Bama"

We do this frequently... on 3rd down.

We do it very sparingly on 1st & 2nd downs.

When we do it, we show blitz usually; sometimes base.

The effect of showing blitz and dropping 8, on 3rd down, is everybody is so used to being under pressure on 3rd downs the WRs shorten their routes (all their trees change) AND a RB and/or TE plans on staying in on the protection (one less receiver to cover).

- Being 3rd down the QB wants to throw, no matter how small the window.
- We're dropping 8, have good cover LBs, and eliminated a receiver via the fake: LBs & S all over slants and digs.

The net result is tied-for-1st INTs.

And yes, it only works if you show blitz sometimes and do it. So not every 3rd down.

The best thing about it all... it screws up protection calls and every once in a while the 3 rushers do get pressure vs. 6 because of those bad calls. It's lagniappe.

We do vary it by dropping 8 (seemingly) and when they hold that RB in, the LB blitz's to the off side (or middle if the RB goes straight to outside). And we vary which LB does it. Our back 7 has more sacks than our DL. That's where that comes from.

It's been used against us too. Why do you think that the more people we kept in to help in pass protection the more pressures we were giving up. For every protection we added (TE for example) our opponents sent a blitzer from the other side.

Let the LSU secondary do the heavy lifting. Probably the best secondary in college football.

There's not a secondary in the history of football that can maintain coverage for 5-6 seconds every play. We couldn't sniff the backfield against several teams this year with a 4 man rush. If we don't blitz the frick out of Tua and trust our DB's to man up, we lose by 3+ scores.

Aranda is going after Tua Saturday.

We will get pressure with 4 or 5 guys. Aranda is a genius and has been planning pressure for this game. Expect us to show some looks we haven't even shown yet this season. We will pressure tua. We have to in order to have a shot to win. We can just let him sit in the pocket and pick his target. We at least need to get him running aND cut half of the field off from him. Geaux tigers.
