Sounds like a good plan for someone like Priester and guys injured so far like Simon and Leto

Do you think Priester would do something like that?

Just seems unlikely to think that a player that really wanted to be drafted this past summer and was slated to go JUCO so he'd have another shot at it next summer, would now want to RS at a 4 year school. I mean, Johnson convinced him to change his mind once; so maybe he can do it again, but I'm not so sure.

If Holt is as seriously injured as it seemed,

Holt's looked pretty bad in just how he reacted to it; but we see players react badly all the time in the moment, but then not have the injury be as severe.

Hard to see from my vantage point, but he definitely slid into the tarp. I'm assuming he jammed his leg into it trying to stop himself; so could be any number of things. But something like a sprain could be possible, which would likely have him back in the spring.

Does anyone know what is up with him? I know I/we saw him in the arm sling the first weekend of practice, but has been out of it ever since. Do we know/think it is an injury that would last him all the way through spring practice and into the season?

What are the rules on a medical redshirt? Do they just have to prove they were injured at one time during the course of a scholarship year or do they have to prove the injury is severe enough to keep them out a significant portion of the season?

No one wants to forcibly redshirt in baseball unless it is injury related & you can’t physically play anyway.

Even more so now with the transfer rules. Makes redshirting pretty much pointless. A kid can just transfer somewhere & play immediately.

Everything we’ve read about Priester makes him the least likely candidate to RS on the team.

A kid like Haddad, if he redshirts, isn’t any more likely to make the team next year.

I just think Priester's stock would be way higher as a fr backup and potential soph starter over going the juco route
He could get drafted out of juco but his ceiling would be a lot higher if he has a solid season at LSU

I don't understand the rush to get to the minor leagues unless he just doesn't like school
Top SEC players have been on the fast track through minors so maybe your path through the minors is shortened with success in the SEC

I thought that was the plan for him this year no matter what.

I don't think any rational person would disagree with you on this. Problem is that we see kids do irrational things all the time.

Not every kid just wants to go bat 3-hole for Nicholls if they aren't going to get alot of playing time at LSU.

I just assumed he didn’t like school and/or wanted some money in his pocket

Not getting a lot of playing time \=\ redshirting & not having the opportunity to play at all though

LSU has a high transfer rate at the bottom of the roster for a reason. These kids want to play, and yes realize hitting 3 hole at Nicholls or somewhere else is better than not playing at all

Seemed more like a tryout thing to me & hasn’t hit well at all this fall. I’d have to read the press release again on his signing tho

Yeah that's what I meant. I had a friend in a similar position a few years ago. Preferred walk on kind of deal with no roster spot guarantee.

I don't know if he got any money but he's a preferred walk on at the very least. He led the Catholic league in hitting.

Wednesday is a signing day for baseball. I'm interested to see if there is any acknowledgement of it on the official website. Some schools do it. We typically never did under Mainieri. I don't know what Johnson did at his previous stops regarding signing day.

They might need him as an extra inf if Holt’s injury is serious

Haddad is a redshirt if he sticks it out. Intelligent kid from my understanding. Holt broke something yesterday. Not sure what bone. Leto had shoulder surgery on an issue he had from high school. Johnson will use the redshirt rules to his advantage if the player will buy into it

I know he's going to discuss recruits/signees at the next coach comm meeting
My guess is LSU likely won't release that info since he hasn't even released the roster for this year yet
