Looking at Shores next to the rest of the players, he's every bit of 6'8. Wiry and long. I think Wes will have a field day with him, and quickly. He's so projectable, and you can see a good pitching coach like Wes really pushing the right buttons right away. He's a freshman so I'm sure we'll see some of that immaturity, but we'll also be in awe at times.

Skenes is a big arse dude, too, on the topic of size.

I'm starting to wonder what's going on with Noot. I expected him to be even more ready to contribute than Shores tbh. Noot is a bulldog.

Possible batting order.

CF Crews
1B Morgan
DH Skenes
3B White
LF Pearson
2B Dugas
SS Thompson/Guidry
RF Kling/Stevie
C Milazzo/Trav/Neal

Sheesh. That doesn’t even get to Jones/Frey/Zeb/Jobert…

There has to be more going on with Noot. Wish we had someone who could find out… like a reporter of some kind.

During the scrimmage when they divide into two, both look like ranked teams.

So much elite talent surround by other excellent players. I’m in awe.

I think he'll hit Dugas 7-9 to make sure we get some base runners down there. I like Kling at 6.

So many freaking options. I want to take a stab so bad, but I'm going to wait. I'm excited to have so many R/L options, though. And you'll have some pop off the bench, good AB guys off the bench, speed, defense. I like the depth and diversity.

I'm still very much focused on how the pitching shapes up, though. If that shapes up, barring just a complete defensive implosion, we're going to be really scary.

Cooper starting was most interesting to me. But I think it may be simply because he’s your best long reliever from the left side. He’s the one guy who may not throw hard but his stuff doesn’t drop off. He’s still throwing 90-91 in his 4th inning and the changeup still plays very well.

We have the bodies. Now we just have to hope that everyone stays healthy especially up the middle. We are not deep at SS or 2B at all and it shows at times. Guidry and Nippolt play young. Guidry reminds me a lot of Kramer as a freshman.

Don't quote me on it, but I recall some minor injury issues with him in high school. You also have to wonder if he's looking at the juco route. I don't think he's a saint, either. So, if we don't see him at all again this weekend, I think he:

A) Making sure he's fully healthy for the spring
B) Looking at other options
C) Got in trouble

I was most excited about him making it to campus, honestly. Love Neal, love Shores, Guidry, etc. But, Noot was my guy.

Pitching is going to be okay, again barring injury.

Skenes
Taylor
Shores
Hurd
Floyd
Cooper

Those guys should be your inning eaters. Then you piece together the with matchups. Lansville, Collins, Hellmers, Ack, Moffett, Fontenot, Edwards, Money, Coleman (hopefully) and Little.

I would like to thank the LSU beat reporter Leah Van for the greet coverage she is giving us. In all seriousness thanks for those that are able to go out and give us the scrimmage reports. Living in Charleston when you are dying for some LSU baseball news stinks. Thanks again!!

It's the health and options that I'm paying attention to. Hurd only threw 1 inning last weekend. Shores was not great last weekend. Taylor has to prove his stamina. With those things in play, I want to see some other guys stepping up.

I have no concerns with Skenes. And, I know what I'm getting out of Collins and Cooper. And, I'll go out on a limb and say that Floyd will be a major contributor - he's as electric as anybody on the staff and will show that more consistently this season. How the rest shapes up is critical.

ETA: People were also talking about Moffett as a closer after last weekend. Then, this weekend happens. Really goes to show that we still have alot to pay attention to on the mound.

Hurd is being brought along slowly on purpose. He’s healthy; they’re just being cautious. Shores looked great today. I agree Floyd could be a major piece. The rest is the rest. Jay isn’t Paul. He won’t rely on just a couple guys. Jay is going to use guys a batter or two at a time. He had a quick leash last year (Cooper the exception) but imagine him having even more options now. I could Moffett closing. I don’t know where little fits in. Could easily be a setup man. Starter are Skenes Hurd and Taylor (who showed his stamina in the summer) with Floyd and Cooper read to go if those guys can get through the lineup twice.

Getting a read on the pitchers against these hitter isn’t easy. I don’t remember a fall where our hitters already looked in mid season form. Usually we are talking about how the pitching is typically way ahead of hitting this time of year. Not the case with this team. When I go to these games, I’m not really looking for a bunch of Ks outside of Skenes. I’m looking for them to be able to make pitches when it matters. Herring fought really hard against white and makes a great 3-2 offspeed pitch that white just punches away from the shift. That’s not really on Herring but a great piece of hitting by Tanks. What we need from Herring is to not lose his cool after losing that battle. Be a goldfish, Herring.

We need our starters to be able to stretch it out much more than last season and I think they will. I think we have the middle relievers I am a little worried about the back end. If shores can get more consistent he may be an option as closer.

My apologies for such a crappy play by play effort today. Had someone talking to me, I was trying to keep my own notes, and post on the board.

It was a bit much.

Skenes is Friday no doubt. 1) he’s our best starter obviously but 2) you’d rather him pitch day 1 and let him hit the next two days rather than vice versa. You want to be fresh as a pitcher and not have any soreness that could come from playing even if it comes from running bases hard or taking a bunch of hard swings late one night then bouncing back for a midday game to pitch. But Sat/Sun is still up in the air. I think it’s going to be those two getting the first looks but I’m not sure on the order. No one is.

I was there with friends as well and left before the last inning. I appreciate the recaps though.

Again, Jay has a quick hook and he doesn’t mind using relievers back to back days. I’d love to have a set rotation and we know they can always get through the lineup twice but that’s not Jays style. And if our staff proves to be as deep as it can be, you can’t blame him. Not to mention the fact that our lineup will keep us in almost any game even if we go down 2 or 3 early. 3 years ago, that deficit felt like the game was lost already.

Seeing Skenes tonight dude looks imposing, same with Shores. Was pumping upper 97 and all my friends were amazed, can’t wait for it to warm and him to get towards 100
