Why would you expect the ratings to be high? It would be regional and wouldn't draw the extra people (less intense viewers) necessary to get high ratings. Sure any BCS game is going to get good ratings, a rematch of two SEC schools would not be great no matter what you believe.

Two marquee names from different parts of the country with large population fan bases would be better ratings.

But the BCS shouldn't be determined by ratings.

The BCS has explicitly stated more than once that the phrase means top two ranked teams according to the BCS formula. It says nothing about some collective opinion of "best" teams/

This is actually a perfect example of the BCS doing as exactly as intended but "Bama" playing the role of a "Boise St".

LSU and Alabama are the marquis names in college football right now. Not Ohio St, USC or Texas, about the only three schools who would automatically drive in ratings. You really don't know anything about college football if you believe Oregon, Okie St or Stanford would outdraw the rematch.

17 million watched the first game, with competition. It would be FAR from the lowest rated BCS NCG on record.

No he didn't. He could of said, "I stand by my principles as I laid them out in 2007 clearly to all back then, if he had principles...

I guess his principles just change like the wind... Bill Clinton anyone?

Then everyone would say that you (LSU) are afraid to play Alabama again. The pundits etc. would have a field day.

"I'll be unhappy if the fans don't start a massive SEC chant before the game starts."

Nothing would disgust me more. Why would the fans starting chanting SEC before the game start? They don't chant for their team? They don't care who wins as long as it is one of the two teams?

My lord.

i've never seen one person not named PJ be wrong so often in 1 thread.

quote:

Let’s break down the cause of all this confusion.
The BCS Standings are created from a sum of four
numbers: polls, computer rankings, a strength of
schedule multiplier, and the number of losses by
each team. Bonus points for “quality wins” are also

awarded for victories against highly ranked teams.
The smaller the resulting sum for a given team, the
higher that team will be ranked in the BCS Standings.

its the lesser of two evils. like the other person said these are the two marquee names.

the game already received high ratings.

ideally it would be oregon or oklahoma etc but its hard to glorify a team that losses late in the season and if you cant sell the potential of a close game people arent going to watch. thats Ok st/VT biggest obstacle(in my opinion)

And no matter how you think it should be determined, i tihnk we all know it is indirectly controlled by ratings.

YOU CONTRADICTED YOUR SELF! 1st-"The rest of the nation does not want to see LSU Bama." 2nd-"It's ESPNs 'agenda' to have a rematch." which the only reason they would want a rematch would be for viewers/money. Not to mention you said the BCS was not to match 1 vs. 2, which it clearly states as its pupose. I've read this entire post and your either completely delusional, still sore about the arse whoppin' ya'll took or an attention whore.

The best two teams in college football are by far, LSU and Alabama. I know it would be easier if LSU played Oregon or Va.Tech or Okie St. I would not mind seeing LSU end up playing a team like that. But if you are fair minded and objective about it, Alabama is the second best team in the Nation...hands down. The field, sans LSU, would be an underdog to Bama..and that is a fact.

I dislike Nick Saban but if you are honest, you understand that the two best teams are from the same conference and division. End of Story.

And you wouldn't have been on any Oregon boards advocating a rematch with LSU prior to Oregon's loss to USC would you? Cause that would make you . . dare say I . . a . . hypocrite.

Consequently, a match between the #1 and #2 teams in the nation rarely occurred.
Honestly, I think the intent of the BCS was to allow conference champs to play each other. The prior bowl affiliations were such that, for example, the SEC champ would never face the Big 10/Pac 10/ Big 8/SWC <merged into Big 12> champs on the field.

This left for easy pickings for the independents; Fla St, Miami and Notre Dame were hot commodities (and thus could recruit very well).

The end result was that USC and Alabama might finish with the same record and never play, and the votes would come down to popularity.

LSU has played Alabama already. We haven't played OSU or VT; my opinion is that playing another conference champ would be what was presumed. A second team from the conference was allowed in to make sure the conferences got their money, and good teams still made big bowls (see- Oklahoma+Nebraska; Ohio St+Michigan, etc). But not for the title.
