16 TDS and 2 interceptions with 2,463 yards in a run first offense. That is pretty darn efficient.

He tourched the Little Brother Aggies two years in a row: 347 yards 3 TDs and 324 yards 2 TDs. Sure most would rather have these numbers vs Bama but that is not going to happen unless you have Baker Mayfield at QB.

Would fans be happy with similar passing numbers with an additional 400 yards rushing from the QB position this year?

Of course.

Can Burrow throw an out route? Maybe throw for 7 yards on 3rd and 7, instead of for 3 yards and extent drives?

Yards doesn’t necessarily mean success. Touchdowns do. Aaron Rodgers doesn’t always throw for 400 yards. A lot of his games result in 198 with 4 Td’s, 225 with 3 TD’s, etc. extremely efficient. Efficiency is the key for our success.

What if they come on the ground?

Chad Kelly passed for 340 in 2015 and 420 in 2016 on them.

In 8 quarters Bama he generated 10 total points. We played another game in which our receivers caught a total of zero passes and a third game in which they caught one. We can get far better production from the QB position then Danny Etling.

Thank you! I'm sick and tired of people pointing to Etling as though he was a benchmark.

wut. There were plenty of opportunities against Bama last year we just could not make the throw

Yes, he protected the football, but he often was indecisive and not willing to take risks with it because he seemed to lack the confidence or ability to put it on target. This did not help us when the situation called for pushing the ball down the field.

I remember when the rant begged to throw to TEs and RBs

Gotta be more efficient in the red zone than Etling was. Ultimately it’s about outscoring the opponent, not yards, qb rating, etc.

Most of his passes were so bad that nobody on offense or defense could get to the ball. It’s hard to intercept a ten yard out that is thrown straight into the ground.

56 other QBs had more than 16 TDs.

Productivity is more important than efficiency.

What is the benchmark then?

This is a fair criticism of Danny.

If Burrow can play like Danny, but give us a better chance of scoring late in the game, we will win more than expected. I love the kid but he didn’t make as many plays as we needed him to when it mattered most. Except maybe for Auburn 2016...

Stop acting silly. You know damn well Etling failed to make the throws we needed to score enough points to hang with Sabama. He couldn't do shite against Troy or Mississippi State either. So stop this stupid arse bullshite asking me to provide a benchmark.

So you don’t have a benchmark then. It’s a legitimate question. I’m not saying he is the benchmark but if you are tired of people saying so then surely you have something in mind? No need to get upset.

I don't really worry so much about the numbers as I do about situational outcomes

If he is great on 3rd down that's a big plus

We need to be greatly improved in the red zone this year also

Last season my benchmark was Jake Fromm of Georgia. He made all the plays necessary to get his team a SEC Championship and a playoff victory and a berth in the national title game.

I think our definition of benchmark is a little different but that would be quite nice. Fromm had a great season and made a former #1 national HS QB quit.
