im honestly not that confident that he will start next game after the coaches review all the plays. in the second half it was almost like despite our coaches calling passing plays he decided it wasnt worth throwing before the ball was even snapped. our O Line actually gave him some time and he didnt even try to throw the ball, he decided to roll out of the pocket into pressure or just tuck and run every time. If you dont want to throw the ball when the coaches call plays to give you a chance to, why did you put in all the time required to be the starting qb at LSU. our team is clearly lacking a leader, Etling has no interest in being that guy tho. If our QB only wants to run the ball, there are 2 QBs on our roster that are better at that that have potential

on a positive note, Etling did lay it all on the line to get the extra yard on several key plays today and we could not have won that game without him. i just dont want him to get in that habit of running around rather than having faith in our protection and WRs. if they dont make the play let them take the blame, but at least give them a chance

Probably because he had no faith in the receivers getting open in time...

There is no way anyone other than Danny Etling starts against Auburn...

ETA: You are correct though, he does bail out too early. The good point is he is a capable runner (slow but strong and not timid).

Our receivers had a grand total of one catch today and that one catch was also halfway caught by the other team

its harder for the receivers to run their routes into the correct timing when the qb doesnt make 1 throw in the timing that the play is designed to be ran

How would he know? He had already ducked his head and decided to run before any receiver started their routes.

Our receiver stole that ball from the defender. Chark saved Etlings arse on that play.

At this point, I'd rather keep Etling on the field against the better SEC defenses.

He does tend to get jumpy but the guy plays his guts out.

Goes out there and gets popped and takes all sorts of hits and just keeps on playing. He won't give up.

Exactly. hopefully, Brennan will not play against Auburn.

it was exceptionally bad today. a lot of the best routes involve the wr making his cut and the ball being there, but Etling would rather roll out and try to make a happen on the run than just throw the 3 step drop pattern and let our WRs make a play after the catch

I've always thought his biggest problem is hesitating and not just towing it when he sees an open man. It's like he is second guessing himself or thinking too much. He simply can't pull the trigger on short to intermediate routes a lot of the time, and it is killing the passing game. Gary even said it today, after he nearly threw a pick. The RB was open, but he "triple clutched it" (quoting Danielson) instead of throwing it when he was ready for the ball.

He is coached not to turn the ball over. We have a defensive line position coach as the head coach who hates turnovers and doesn't understand offense. Same thing will happen with Brennan as well under O. He gets pulled after every pick.

exactly this. those things are fundamentals that have to be established early to make the defense respect at least the possibility that we might take a quick 5 yards if they dont defend it

I agree with what you said, but that play was weird. It was to Guice and he didn't turn and look until really late. He was open early, but not looking, which I think caused Etling to "triple clutch". I have no idea why Guice wouldn't have been looking at the point where Etling first tried to throw it. It wasn't one of those routes where you anticipate and throw before the receiver comes out of his route, either.

My point exactly. How is it possible for all of the wide receivers on one team to literally total one catch? He's a 5th year senior and as bad as last year was he's actually getting worse.

Fascinating. Tell me more.

Coach O's emphasis with the offense are establish the run game and don't turn it over. If that's the mindset your quarterback has he is going to be gun shy unless the receiver is wide open. Remember how O reacted after that Louisville interception in the bowl game? The problem is the double clutching is actually putting him at risk of turning it over

You think there's one coach in America that wouldn't have been upset with that interception? That was a bonehead play by Etling.

yes. being too careful is what is killing our offense. i can understand running the ball a lot from our coaching staff, but if u are the QB you would think he would be excited to throw it when the coaches actually call a passing play. instead its like our QB is even more hesitant to throw the ball than our coaches are, which is kinda scary since we called like 20 running plays and 6 passing plays in the first 26 plays

like you are a quarterback, you would think you would want to throw the ball every chance you are given to have a shot at making it to the nfl possibly. he has all the opportunity in the world to show off his abilities at LSU, but he is more worried about "what if i mess up"
