I could get down for Reids cause if he even slightly held his people accountable. Talk about everything you currently are then talk about sims and how improvements can be made from within as well as how he is saying white people are bad

Stopped reading it after that. If you’re going to lecture me on stuff like this. Get your facts right.

Didn't he go to that oppressive high school in Ascension Parish? Dutchtown?

Didn't that mean that his parents and family have to live in that oppressive Prairieville or Geismar area?

That is the first line of Eric Reid’s op ed in the New York Times. And it’s unequivocally false. He’s promoting a false narrative not based in reality. No one protects more black lives than police officers.

Eric is a very ill- informed Marxist who is acting out as a function of his psychology. Everything he says originates in entitlement and resentment. He’s free to spew whatever sophistry he chooses, but I put it in the same irrelevant and sick file I put anti-Semitism, pro-KKK rants and defense of Communism. It’s an idea, but it’s an inferior idea, and it destroys lives.

He's allowing other ideologies to control his life. He would actually be "liberated" and "get back the power" if he truly didn't allow others to control his thoughts and beliefs.

No country offers the same opportunities to black folks. There are over 35,000 black millionaires in America.

And if you are a young smart black college grad, companies will be tripping over each other to hand you a silver platter.

So let’s hear some gratitude from the POCs for free market capitalism framed within our representative republic.

Hell, there is so much opportunity here that we elected the first gay black president for two effing, prosperity killing terms.

You're right, the market was on the upswing before Obama was put in office!

It's hard to take anything you say seriously when you finish a fairly rational, lettered statement with far-right propaganda and conspiracy.

The athletes that think this country is an oppressive shithole should ask Enes Kanter about the time his dad was held in Turkey and indicted as a tertorist...by his own people.

Or ask Son Heung-min about how his soccer career was nearly taken from him due to South Korea’s crazy military policy.

Or ask Jon Obi Mikel about the time he PLAYED IN A WORLD CUP ELIMINATION GAME KNOWING HIS FATHER HAD BEEN KIDNAPPED...by his own fellow nigerians...and didn’t mention a word of it until after the game due to fear that publicity could make things worse.

Or turn on the news and see what’s the latest in Haiti, Venezuela, Somalia, the Gaza strip, etc

Of course not everyone has it equal. We have a lot of work to do and a lot to fix. But this is the greatest nation on earth. Are people who share Eric’s sentiments going to take advantage of this and use it TO HELP THE CAUSE or are they just going to stay miserable and blame white people with horribly flawed and ingrained values from 400 years ago?

Eric Reid has had a more privileged life than 98% of white people.

The guy is just saying words and has no idea what he's talking about.

White, female. But this is irrelevant considering the protest is aimed at the killing of innocent blacks at the hands of officers, not necessarily white officers.

Blacks and latinos are more likely to be killed by cops, though the killing of unarmed US citizens, in general, is very rare. I agree that he's wrong about this. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's misinformed (not malicious in his intent) by academia, the media, along with the emotions that come with racial and communal ties.

Judging by all of the downvotes there's certainly a lot of racists on this forum. Definitely sad to see

Maybe we should stop oppressing him with millions of dollars to play a game.

Here's a twist on an unoriginal thought:

Eric Reid is such an intelligent man. Since almost all blacks are oppressed in this country, he should spearhead a movement of educated blacks in a mass repatriation to Sub-Saharan Africa with a goal to build and develop that 2/3 of the continent.

Slavery was absolutely horrible and a sad part of our history. The perpetrators of the slave trade and the society that condoned it did pay a dear price for their sins. A generation of men (1.2 million) was wiped out, and the South in particular endured devastation to its economy and infrastructure. There is not an ounce of doubt that the South experienced Divine judgment.

On the other hand, the importation of African slaves provided the opportunity for hundreds of millions of black to be exposed to the gospel of Christ over the past 400 years. Sure, there have been missionaries in Africa for a long time, but not until the late 20th century did the technology become available to spread the gospel to the continent on a wide scale. Undoubtedly, it was God's plan that African slaves, and their descendants, be exposed to the Gospel of Christ in the New World. Otherwise, with a small percentage of exceptions, hundreds of millions of blacks would never have heard the Gospel.
