Saban is a very good taskmaster, but he sucked at the NFL. Why? Because he couldn't bully players who wouldn't stand for his schtick, and he didn't have an unlimited budget to spend on coaches, facilities, and player bribes the way he has at Bama.

Les was never a HC in the NFL so how does this make prove he is better than Saban?

Agree with everything OP says until the last 2 sentences. We shouldn’t have 20 threads started about this....but c’mon...of course we care about Les...unless your’re 7 yrs old and didn’t watch LSU the last decade.

Who is saying he is a better coach than Saban? We are saying he’s the best coach to ever coach for LSU. That doesn’t mean the greatest coaching talent we have ever had, it means who was here the longest, produced the most wins, etc. Nick Saban was a better coaching talent, but Les is the best coach we have ever had.

I do care about Les. There was a tear in my eye when he was carried off the field. My dad was a high school football coach in La for years and I love coaches. Enough with the Les stuff.....

You are when you say this

quote:

They both coached for LSU so by saying Miles is the best coach to ever coach at LSU puts him above Saban as a coach.

Look I get what you're trying to say but understand you are not articulating it very well.

Lots of people holding a candle for Les also talk nonstop about their childhood. Some of us have grown up to become adults. Adults like Coach Ed Orgeron.

He also never had the entrenched, win-at-all-costs Alabama Mafia and SEC office making sure he wins and gets every benefit of the doubt. So what's your point?

You started the thread.

Hope that doesn’t make a tear in your eye.

Maybe I’m not getting it off very well, but I specifically mentioned he’s not as good of a coaching talent, but considering all things he’s the best coach we have ever had under Saban, because of the time spent here among other things. Other people seemed to understand it.

Umm my point was that the question was how is Les a better coach than Saban and your response in no way made a case for it since you can't even compare the two by the metrics you gave.

He is really not though....... he did enough to keep us going. He wasn’t innovative! He was stubboened with Cam and Malveto. He was just riding the wave and he did an awesome job. But a great coach he is not.

I understand it too, but I get why op was confused. Y'all are arguing about something you both seem to agree on.

We needed to move on towards the end, but he still remains our best coach in program history. I don’t think anything can change that.
